SCHOLARSHIP FUND COMPETITION TO LAUNCH IN SUPPORT OF THE THEATRICAL RELEASE OF

THE NATIVITY STORY

TEN RESPs WILL BE AWARDED TO WINNING ENTRIES FROM ACROSS CANADA
Toronto, November 15, 2006 – Alliance Atlantis* Motion Picture Distribution Inc. announced today that it will launch The Nativity Story Scholarship Fund Writing Competition on December 1, 2006 to coincide with the theatrical release of THE NATIVITY STORY.
Contestants will be encouraged to enter the contest by logging onto www.nativityresources.ca/scholarship, where they will be asked to write in 500 words or less; in their own words and in essay format, “How watching The Nativity Story impacted me”.
The competition is open to all residents of Canada. Ten RESP (Registered Education Saving Plan) awards with a value of CDN $3,000 each will be awarded to the top ten essays as judged by a panel of pre-selected religious educators, ranging from high schools, universities or graduate schools. The winning entries will be determined using the following criteria: 40% creativity, 20% grammar and sentence structure, and 40% on the use of this particular theme. The competition officially closes on January 15, 2007, and entrants must be 17 years of age or younger to qualify.
The competition will be promoted throughout faith-based schools and organizations across the country and is being coordinated by Jeff Thiessen of On Purpose TV based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. According to Thiessen, “This is a very moving film, which is sure to impact people of all ages and will be especially impacting to young people”.
Frank Mendicino, Senior Vice President of Alliance Atlantis* Motion Picture Distribution Inc. comments, “We are thrilled to offer this unique competition to students across the country and look forward to learning about how THE NATIVITY STORY has touched their lives.”
THE NATIVITY STORY chronicles the arduous journey of two people, Mary and Joseph, a miraculous pregnancy, and the history-defining birth of Jesus. This dramatic and compelling story comes to life in a major motion picture starring Academy Award® nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider) as Mary, Oscar Isaac (Syriana) as Joseph, and Academy Award® nominee Shohreh Aghadashloo (House of Sand and Fog) as Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. THE NATIVITY STORY is directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown) from a screenplay written by Mike Rich (The Rookie, Finding Forrester) and opens across Canada on December 1st.
