A systematic study of hymns and related forms,

including their origin, development, classification, biblical

and use in worship and evangelism. Attention will be given

to authors and composers, to the use of hymnals, and to a

brief survey of cultural and contemporary trends in Western

hymnody.

Objectives

Upon the completion of M.C.M in African Church Music, the students should be able to:

(a) manifest a comprehensive understanding of theological/musicological education for the development of African church music;

(b) demonstrate clearly and intelligently the objectives of African church music;

(c) manifest clearly the biblical rationale for selecting, composing, planning, researching and performing music of authentic African styles;

(d) demonstrate capability in serving effectively as worship planners and leaders;
