Summative Assessment:

(Culminating Task)
~Students will research on an assigned French country, province or state.

~They will use their findings to to showcase food sampling, and geographic, economic, climate, religious, cultural and musical and idiomatic expressions related to their research topic during La francophonie autour du monde.


~Students will use structured

sentences provided to complete their own answers.It is important that students are in group of 3 to allow a French only conversation for approximately 2 minutes with another group that has a different country, state or province.


~Afterwards, students will taste various dishes.


~Oral:

Production

role playing using authentic and contextual dialogues (e.g: Dîner à la Tour Eiffel, Une visite chez les Pharaons, une sortie à la cabane à sucre.)

Ice breakers: charades, Pyramide, le Cercle, Qui suis-je ?, Je pars pour Paris, j’emmène…, je visite…, je mange…

~Oral presentations participation to Concours d’Art Oratoire, skits, tableaux and celebrity personification.
~Comprehension

Students will watch French movies and answer questionnaires about them.

Formative Assessment:
◊ Students will research on a francophone celebrity.
◊ In pair, they will personify their celebrities.
◊ The length will be approximately 2-3 min.
◊ They will exchange about their childhood, influences, achievement, their claim to fame and their personal life.
◊ Students will be asked to dress like the celebrity.

Diagnostic Assessment:
► Handing out a survey on La francophonie autour du monde to assess students’ understanding and knowledge of French culture in our society.
► Through their findings, students will be introduced to the unit. We will play association and memorization games to be familiarized to the French culture.
► For instance, I will provide them with 3 short descriptions on French countries/states/provinces and they will need to find the name amongst a list of 20. Afterwards, we will discuss our answers.

During Education week, students will join forces to recreate a virtual visit of Paris to explore various Parisian tourist attraction sites. They will provide a passport to students, staff as well parents.
While discovering different Parisian sites, visitors will go to cultural booths that represent the following tourist attractions:
▪Les Champs Elysées

▪La Tour Eiffel

▪Le Musée du Louvre

▪Le Château de Versailles

▪La Cathédrale de Paris

▪L’Académie française


Students will create a learning environment where there will be assigned an information desks with food sampling that represent French quarters. Plus, they will present a little script during which they will talk about three important aspects of the each tourist attraction.
They will act as Parisian hosts and adopt a Parisian accent.
For instance, for la Tour Eiffel, they will discuss about its History/origins, its cultural importance and its rank as one of the 8 wonders of the world.
Guests will be invited to sit and have some treats while listening to the mini dialogues.
