USN Atlantic Fleet Training and Testing Ranges EIS
Our US Navy is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to renew the permits required to conduct training and testing off our Atlantic Coast. The US Navy spends more funds on environmental protection than any other organization in the United States and has specific requirements and needs for testing and training for underwater weapons. This work is critical to our protection of our resources and maritime activities.
The Navy has published requests for US Citizens to review and comment on the Navy's draft Environmental Statements. Some Citizen groups take this request as an opportunity to protect the environment, their single mission, rather than considering the importance of providing resources to our Sea Services that will support the protection of our country. All the information needed to review, evaluate and comment is posted at http://www.aftteis.com/ .
Citizen support is essential to continuing underwater training and testing of ships, submarines, sensors and weapons. After reviewing website information, click on “Submit Comments” , http://www.aftteis.com/aftt3/Home/Submit-Comments , on the lower right side of the home page and decide whether a Post Office letter or inserting information in the website page is your best approach.
Please take these steps to recommend continuing our Navy's required training and testing at sea. The public notice for the EIS is attached. The Navy's choice is Alternative 1. Please contact (...Tom Wright, NL National Director, thomaswwright@gmail.com …) if you have any questions or concerns.
