Patient participation group
Notes from Meeting held on Friday 2 December at 12.30pm
Present: Neil Kenworthy (Chair), Allan Binding, Barbara Moody,

Michelle Griffiths (Practice Manager), Sue Spencer (Secretary)

  1. Members had a wide ranging discussion on the following:

  • Information from Pharmacy2U which is a private company.

  • CCG’s implementation of pharmacies no longer being able to receive repeat prescriptions direct from patient (to prevent stockpiling of medication)

  • Practice dispensary now ceased and repeat prescriptions may be ordered between 11am and 5pm on the general line to reception (line 3). No ansaphone available now.

  • Used syringes and sharps. Patients using these at home should order a disposal box via a prescription and when these are ready for collection should arrange through North Kesteven District Council who will collect.

  • News items on overweight people being required to lose weight before surgery. Discussion on this practices manages the issue of obesity amongst patients.

  • Discussion on cost of binge-drinking to the NHS.

  • Following news that many GPs were struggling to meet appointments and manage resources, the PPG was pleased to know that this practice manages well. It was also confirmed that both home visits and telephone consultations can be arranged (preferably following a telephone call that morning).

  • It was noted that the practice has a Primary Care Navigator, through Age UK, who can be contacted by patients or relatives for an assessment. No need to see a GP first.

  • It had been suggested that Julie, from Carers, would have a stand in the waiting room to give patients information. Allan (on behalf of the Parkinson’s Society) and Barbara (on behalf of the Multiple Sclerosis Society) agreed to also do one.

  1. Virtual PPG

Michelle agreed to explore how this works at other practices and to bring findings to next meeting.

  1. CQC Report

It was noted that the report following the July inspection of the practice had still not been received (19 weeks).

  1. Book Club

This is doing well and money is being forwarded to selected charities on a regular basis.
