Active Living Research Program, University of California, San Diego. The Economic Benefits of the Safe Routes to School Program. Participated in development of a commissioned paper on the economic benefits of the national safe routes to school program. 2013.
Indian River County Health Department. Healthy Communities Planning Checklist. Reviewed existing checklists for health departments to complete review of local development projects and prepared a checklist for use by public health departments throughout the State of Florida. 2012.
Washington State Transportation Center (TRAC). Safe Routes to School (SRTS): Statewide Mobility Assessment Study. Collected data on schools in Florida that are participating in the federal Safe Routes to School program to incorporate into a multi-state study. Assessed method of data collection, reviewed data collection in other states and assisted in the development of recommendations on methodology for data collection. 2008-2012.
Gainesville Urbanized Area Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization (MTPO). Waldo Road Corridor Study. Provided expertise on transportation planning for study of transportation corridor located near Gainesville’s regional airport. Participated in development and evaluation of recommendations for redevelopment of corridor. 2007-2009.
University of Florida Office of Planning. Prepared literature review, review of local data collection and made recommendations on how to benchmark and measure mode split to the University of Florida Campus. 2007-2008.
Puget Sound Regional Council and Washington State Transportation Center (TRAC). Options for Making Concurrency More Multimodal. Participated in the preparation of report for Washington State Legislature and testified before Senate Transportation Committee and House Local Government Committee on proposed legislation. 2006-2007.
Spokane Regional Transportation Council. Study Assessing the Feasibility of the Regional Transportation Concurrency System in Spokane. Prepared technical memoranda on approaches to regional transportation concurrency, performance measures for regional concurrency and conducted workshop with technical staff, elected officials and representatives of community and business groups regarding the development of a regional concurrency system. 2006-2007.
Gainesville Urbanized Area Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization. Design Solutions for the SW 20th Avenue Area of Gainesville. Prepared a technical report on transportation issues and reviewed design work of students. 2005-2006.
Transportation Research Board, Washington, DC. Participated in peer review and documented results in a publication for the TRB. 2005-2006.
The Pantry, Jacksonville, FL. Expert witness in local planning agency hearings regarding proposals for large-scale development projects. Testified and provided advice on issues associated with highway capacity and proposed development projects. 2003-2007.
Suwannee-St. Johns Group Sierra Club. Expert witness (pro bono) in administrative challenge to the Alachua County, Florida Comprehensive Plan. Testified on issues associated with the transportation impacts of proposed land use amendments. 2003.
Fehr and Peers Transportation Consultants. Contracted to be a participant in a Delphi Survey on the 4Ds (density, diversity, design and destination accessibility) in transportation planning. 2003.
Washington State Transportation Center (TRAC), University of Washington, Seattle, Washington. Review work of research team on study of concurrency in four suburban communities (Kirkland, Issaquah, Bellevue and Redmond) in the Seattle area (expenses paid). 2003.
University of Texas at Austin Graduate Program in Community and Regional Planning. Contracted to be an expert reviewer on a study on Sprawl Mitigation Strategies for the Texas Department of Transportation. 2002-2003.

Roush, McCracken, Guerrero & Miller. Contracted to provide expert testimony in Bonifas v. City of Phoenix on crossing guard training and safety of children in school zones. 2001.
City of Gainesville and Alachua County, FL. Contracted to design and conduct public participation process on the redevelopment of SW 13th Street (US Highway 441) Corridor. 2001-2002.
GeoSolutions, Inc. Contracted to provide expert testimony on the impact of access management, through use of medians, on adjacent property owners. 2000-2008.
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Highway Safety Research Center. Contracted to design data collection methodology, pretest methodology, and implement data collection methodology on pedestrian crossings in mid-block and at unprotected intersections in Gainesville and Orlando, FL. 1997-1998.

Redevelopment Plan for the Cabot/Koppers Superfund Site. Worked with various stakeholders, including the Stephen Foster Neighborhood Association, United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Region 4 (Southeast) representative, principally responsible parties (

Health Impact Assessment of the Discontinuation of the College Park-University Heights Community Redevelopment Agency. Worked with the City of Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Gainesville to complete a health impact assessment of the decision to remove the community redevelopment and tax-increment financing designation on two redevelopment districts near the University of Florida. 2016-present.
Vital by Design designation as member of American Institute of Architects (AIA) Foundation and the Association of Collegiate School of Architecture (ACSA) Design and Health Research Consortium. A team of researchers from the University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning, and the School of Public Health applied for and was designated as one of eleven consortium on health and design with a focus on aging and health. While this designation does not include any funding, it offers technical assistance and a platform for the development of research collaborations among other consortium members and throughout the University of Florida. 2015-present.

Cabot/Koppers Superfund Site, Gainesville, FL. This project involves working on a variety of projects for this project that is currently undergoing an environmental cleanup. With a colleague and two different classes, my students have completed an Health Impact Assessment and a set of recommendations for approaches to redeveloping the neighborhood once this site has been cleaned up. 2014-present.
Assessment of the Transit Needs for Safety Net Clinics in Gainesville, FL. With the assistance of students, I am working with local organization of primary care physicians, public health advocates and other interested persons, who provide basic health care services to patients without health insurance at various community locations, to identify options for providing transportation access to these clinics. 2012-present.
The Villages Bicycle Friendly Advisory Group, The Villages, FL. The project involves working with the Villages Bicycle Friendly Advisory Group to provide assistance to allow them to apply for the League of American Bicyclists’ (LAB) Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community. Developed and implemented survey of members of the various bicycle clubs in the community. 2015-2016.

Main Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation (GCAT). With the assistance of a group of students from a transportation policy and planning course, we have been completing research on the best practices in active transportation to develop an understanding of the state of practice in Gainesville and Alachua County, Florida. 2015.
Street Narrowing Project, City of Gainesville, FL. Transportation Consultant. This project involves the collection of data on economic and transportation activity, particularly bicycle and pedestrian activity and interactions with automobiles on a 16-block section of a roadway in Downtown Gainesville that is being narrowed from five lanes to three lanes plus parking and bicycle lanes. 2002-2010.
Florida Communities Trust Grant Proposals, Alachua Conservation Trust, Alachua County Forever and Conservation Trust for Florida. Course Instructor. This project involved the preparation of the first draft of a grant proposal for the Florida Communities Trust grant with the assistance of students in my Environmental Impact Statements course. 2005, 2007 and 2009.
Transit Oriented Development in Gainesville and Alachua County, FL. Course Instructor. This studio project explored the policies about transit-oriented development, the locations of activity centers and transportation (for all modes) networks, and then assessed the needs along the South 16th Avenue Corridor and NW 23rd St. and NW 13th Street, which are located near the University of Florida and Downtown Gainesville. 2001, 2003.
SW 13th Street Planning Studio, Gainesville, FL. Course Instructor. This studio project explored conceptual designs for the redevelopment of an old interurban arterial that connects the University of Florida to the natural areas of Bivens Arm and Paynes Prairie State Preserve. In this context, we explored issues of retrofitting an old tourist-oriented corridor. Major issues include the need for continuous transportation network, need for revitalization of old commercial centers, the existence of sexually-oriented businesses, and the need for connections to and restoration of natural areas. 1999-2002.
Depot Avenue Planning Studio, Gainesville, FL. Course Instructor. This studio project explored conceptual designs for the redevelopment of an area between Downtown Gainesville and the Depot Avenue Rail Trail. In this context, we explored issues of land use mix, transportation, connections, historic preservation, storm water management, and management of brownfield sites. 1997.
Security Master Plan for the Joint Interagency Task Force and the U. S. Defense Department, Key West, FL. Transportation Consultant. Prepared a security master plan for the U.S. Interdiction Center located on an unsecured military base. The design had to address the return of a formerly secured land to the City of Key West, yet protect the highly sensitive military asset. Solutions focused on the enhancement and improvement of the pedestrian and transportation system rather than the use of technical defense systems and barriers. 1997.
