Bio

Alpha Records International Recording Artist Troy Tipton is a solid contributor to the modern rock genre, combining a distinct & expansive vocal range with masterful guitar riffs & intricately woven instrumental solos. Troy produces an energy and passion that leaves fans wanting more. Inspired by the Beatles US debut performance on the Ed Sullivan Show, Troy invented himself as a drummer at the ea rly age of 6. Playing clubs as a fill for his father’s band and entertaining at school dances and private parties as drummer for a youth band, Troy captured fans early on with his energetic stage presence. At the age of 14, Troy turned in his drumsticks for the lure of the electric guitar. Influenced by guitar greats such as his father Sonny Tipton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi, Mark Farner, and Paul Rogers, Troy spent countless hours dedicated to the mastery of all of the legendary guitar solos and to the development of his own personal style. After deciding to pursue a career as a professional musician, Troy continued to fine-tune his guitar skills and backing vocals performing in a variety of local and regional rock bands. In 1980 Troy met up with former Head East lead singer, John Schlitt, and joined his new band, Johnny, as the lead guitarist. Troy’s emerging kick-ass style clicked as the band hit the tour circuit, and he honed his stage skills around the U.S. and Canada, performing with Johnny in major arena tours as the opening act for Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick, Whitesnake, Air Supply, Sammy Hagar, Nitty Gritty Dirt band, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Deep Purple, Savoy Brown, Pablo Cruise, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Toronto, and more. During the early 1980s Troy signed to GW records with his band “Troy”, releasing a 45 record of “You’re My Girl” and “Memories of You”. His “Troy” band mates included drummer Rob Bermin (formerly of Twisted Sister) and bassist/backing vocalist Dave Geiger (formerly of Desire). The band toured, opening for Steppenwolf, Ram Jam, Black Oak Arkansas, David Chastain and others. Troy also played guitar on the heavily spun song “Don’t Scold the Dog” for Even Steven, winner of a WEBN/Cincinnati album project contest. In 1986 Troy was sought out to play guitar for Capitol Recording Artists Sly Fox, whose Platinum hit "Let's Go All The Way" topped the Billboard charts at number 7. Troy took another spin on the U.S. and Canadian arena tour circuit touring with Sly Fox and opening for Kool & The Gang, Jermaine Jackson, The Jets, Roger & Zapp, Nu Shooz, Ready For The World, Star Pointe, and more. In the early 1990s Troy co-produced shows for MCA Recording Artists Lord Tracy and Metal Blade Recording Artists Oliver Magnum. Throughout the 1990s he also appeared locally and regionally as Troy Tipton, former guitarist for Sly Fox, playing originals and covers at festivals & nightclubs and opening for Richard Marx, Kings X, and the Edgar Winter Group to name a few. Into the new millennium, Troy continued to work on a myriad of projects with a wide variety of accomplished artists, producing and/or recording for the following: Bootsy Collins/Warner Brothers Records, Eric Brittingham and Jeff Labar (Cinderella), Mike Hodges (drummer for David Bowie & Adrian Belew), Greg Jackson (keyboardist for Zapp & Sly Fox), Razor Sharp (keyboardist for George Clinton & Sly Fox), Tony Clark (bassist for EMI Recording Artists Blessid Union of Souls), Jim Phipps (drummer for Every Mothers Nightmare), and Gradual Taylor/Warlock Records. As a composer, musician, and producer in many styles, Troy developed the experience and confidence to be comfortable in virtually any musical situation. Around 2005, music executive and friend, Jake Salazar contacted Troy to encourage him to get back into the music scene as a front man. With his support and wisdom Troy entered into a production deal with Jake and Eartoonz Records, which led to the making of his debut CD, “I Will Be Good”. In 2008 Troy signed to Full Entertain, Inc. for management, publishing, record distribution and development. The CD showcases Troy’s versatility as an artist fusing influences from the rock, pop and r&b genres. The song “Rock the House” continues to be a crowd favorite at shows, and “Easy On The Eyes” was made into a music video and has seen popularity on both MySpace and YouTube. With a return to his true rock roots, Troy has recently written and released a new single that is rated in radio at 4 stars. The song, entitled "I Like It Like That", is a mixture of heavy guitar with melodic vocals, creating a sound that will please a wide audience. A full CD is scheduled for release in February of 2013. Produced by Erwin Musper (Def Leppard, Scorpions, Van Halen and more), the CD features Eric Brittingham on bass (Cinderella), Michael Hodges on drums and percussion (David Bowie), Garfield Redden on drums (Tommy Tutone) and Troy on lead vocals and guitars. Troy thanks his dedicated team for all their hard work: bassist Kevin "Bushman" McKinney (Days Of The New), drummer Garfield Redden (Tommy Tutone), and sound engineer Gregg Pressler (Steven Adler, Warrant, Every Mothers Nightmare). The guys look forward to taking to the road to promote the new CD and to bring a fresh, contemporary, and innovative interpretation on the sounds of classic melodic rock to audiences across the world.
