Approved
English/Speech Department
Presented by Denise Coulter.
Added goals to make it explicit that information literacy is included in the course. The committee and D. Coulter reworded one of the goals to read, “Students will be able to write a documented paper ethically and correctly, evaluating and synthesizing information from multiple sources and acknowledging borrowed material using a formal citing method in observation of laws, regulations and institutional policies.” She will send a corrected syllabus to the secretary.
Approved
J. Jaloway questioned the part in the syllabus that states students will receive an F grade for lack of attendance. The committee reviewed the information in the college catalog (page 21) referring to grades and attendance. Should it be revised? Suggestions were:
---add a sentence, under Grading – F, about lack of attendance
---take it to the Policies and Procedures committee
---take it to the Collegiate Assembly
CULN115 – Basic Pastry Preparation
Presented by K. Muller
Changed prerequisites to: CULN101, CULN110, CULN202.
Approved, one nay.
The committee discussed the problem of having a 200 level course being a prerequisite for a 100 level course. P. Demarest and H. Peterson will meet with
K. Muller and create a new alpha for the culinary courses and renumber them in a logical sequence.
OLD BUSINESS
The chair said we have to pare down Standards 11 and 12 to 6 to 8 categories and follow the new template. He asked the committee to look at the original Middle States “dot” document and eliminate any items that are not pertinent to us (example, graduate curricula) and see if any can be combined. Some are being addressed by other committees (assessment questions and some of the distance education questions).
Send input to the chair, who will compile the information.
NEXT MEETING – Tuesday, December 14 at 12:30 p.m. in the Board Room.
