Cricket as a source of entertainment is something we have always seen as Pakistanis. Brian Stoddart has noted the history of the interest developed in cricket. In a time before movies, television, and radios, cricket was a good source of entertainment in the entire world (Stoddart, 1998). An interest that has since been developed in regions like India and Pakistan by the influence of the British and hence cricket has stayed a symbol of pride for Pakistanis since independence (Bandyopadhyay, 2007). It has been noted down as a cheap or free means of entertainment that helps people relax and unwind. However, it was also noted that in the Victorian era, cricket was thought as something that would blur the boundaries of class differences and hence it was discouraged (Stoddart, 1998). While this may be true, it is something that should not be discouraged because it brings the people together, it is a symbol of unity for a nation. This is something that Ma Chunying has also agreed upon and we will also be focusing on the aspect of psychological unity in our research as well (Chunying, 2021).
