Frank James Critzer, retired superintendent of Pulaski County Schools, died Sunday morning at a Clearwater, Fla., hospital. He was 72.
Critzer, who was superintendent for 27 years prior to retiring in 1965, had been spending the winter months in Clearwater for several years.
He had been in declining health since suffering a stroke last year.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p,m, First Presbyterian Church with the pastor, the Rev. Brett Fenwick, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Critzer was born in Afton on June 12, 1900, the son of the late Chesterfield Critzer and Minta Shultz Critzer.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a former elder of the church, a past president of the Pulaski Rotary Club and a member of Pythagoras Lodge No. 239, A.F. and A.M.
A new elementary school now under construction has been named the Frank Critzer Elementary School in recognition of his career as superintendent.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mildred Lake Critzer; a son, Dr. Ben Lake Critzer of Portsmouth; two brothers, C. C. and Shield B. Critzer, both of Afton; two sisters, Mrs. J. Hillis Miller of Gainesville, Fla., amd Mrs. George Brooks of Brainhard, Mass.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the Frank J. Critzer Scholarship Fund.
Friends may call at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home Tuesday.

Father Of Pulaski Superintendent Dies at Hospital
Mr. and Mrs. Frank CRITZER left today for Afton, Va., being called there due to the death of Mr. CRITZER’S father, C. C. CRITZER.
Mr. CRITZER, a farmer, has been critically ill for several days at University hospital, Charlottesville, following a stroke.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Frank, of Pulaski, and Shields, of Alton, in addition to two daughters. Time of funeral services, expected to be held tomorrow from the Lebanon church at Afton, was not know here today.

Temple Painter (Bud) Crockett, Jr., 64, of Laguna Beach, California, died Tuesday afternoon in the Orange Medical Center after a short illness. He was a gardner and a Pulaski native.
Crockett had been living in California for the past forty
years and was the son of the late Temple Painter Crockett, Sr. and Leona Vermillion Crockett. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Lacy Trinkle of Dublin, Va. Funeral and burial will be there.

a Dublin Nursing Home. She was the widow of Ralph H. Crowder. Surviving are

Hospital. She was born in Pulaski on June 13, 1920 and was the daughter of
Thomas NEESE and Rosa CARPER NEESE. She was also preceded in death by her
Husband, Garnett Fields CROWDER, Sr., a daughter, Hilda HARR, and two
brothers, James NEESE and Ralph NEESE.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Garnett FIELDS, Jr. and Nancy
CROWDER, Pulaski, Glenn Thomas CROWDER, Pulaski, Jerry Wayne and Delores
CROWDER, Pulaski, Danny Douglas CROWDER, Pulaski, four daughters and son in
laws, Jean and Wayne SUGGS, Piedmont SC, Barbara and Donald DAVIS, Pulaski,

sister Colleen SAYLOR, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and two

Thelma Repass Crowell, 101, of Pulaski died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 in the Pulaski Health Care Center. She was born in Wythe County on April 3, 1902 and was the daughter of the late Orval R. Repass and Cecile Felty Repass. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ohmer O. Crowell. She drove a horse and buggy to Pulaski High School during the First World War. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Pulaski since 1923 where she was active in the choir, altar guild and teaching and leading music for Sunday School. She was an active member in Trinity’s Women of the ELCA circle meetings until recently. She was a member of the Pulaski Woman’s Club, the Music Club, the Garden Club and she also belonged to the Draper Homemaker’s Club. Surviving are: her sons and daughters-in-law, Ohmer Crowell, Jr. and Pat Crowell, Columbus, Ohio, Douglas and Melodean Crowell, Pulaski; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Carlton Tester, Lynchburg; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 5, at 11 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Terrie Sternberg officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Born in Knox County, Tenn., Feb 6, 1920, he was the son of the late James Thomas CRUZE and Minnie HAMMOCK CRUZE. He was the owner of Cruze Typewriter Co. and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Loy CRUZE; two daughters,Julia C. CRUZE of Nashville, Tenn., and Charlotte CRUZE Knoxville, Tenn.; two sons, George Loy CRUZE of Pulaski and Vernon Alan CRUZE of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Perry A. CRUZE of Knoxville, Tenn., and William A.

The funeral will be today at 8 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J.N. Howard officiating. Burial will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Strawberry Plains Cemetery, Strawberry Plains, Tenn.

The funeral will take place from the home in Pulaski this afternoon at three o'clock. In response to a telegram received yesterday morning announcing her death, her brother, Mr. J. W. Bondurant, and family and Mrs. James R. Bondurant, left on the afternoon train yesterday for Pulaski to be present at the funeral. Mrs. Cummings is survived by her husband and three children. Goldie Riggins Dalton, age 79 of Dublin and formerly Barren Springs, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2003 at the home of her daughter, Sylvia Goff, at 5773 Jones Drive, Dublin where she made her home for the past five years. Born April 11, 1924 in Bluefield, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Stewart Riggins and Fannie Young Riggins. Two sisters and three brothers also preceded her in death. She was a retired employee from Pulaski Furniture Corporation and also did private duty for Home Health Care after her retirement. Surviving are: her three sons, Raleigh E. Dalton, Fairfield, Calif., Bryan S. Dalton, Galax, H. Leon Dalton, Pulaski; one daughter, Sylvia D. Goff, Dublin; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Gilmer Riggins, Pulaski, Bert Riggins, Hillsville. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 7:30 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Blouse officiating. A private family interment will follow Wednesday at the Riggins Family Cemetery, Barren Springs. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. until time of service. Jack DALTON son of Mrs. Barnie DALTON, was drowned in New River Tuesday afternoon near the Hiwassie Bridge. He and two companions were swimming in the river when the accident occurred. He was about 15 years of age and leaves his mother and several brothers. His father preceded him to the grave several years ago. Interment was in the family cemetery at Patterson.

Virginia Dalton Peak. He was a retired milk hauler in Southwest Virginia for
50 years. He was a volunteer rescue member with the Pulaski County
Lifesaving Crew for 13 years. He is survived by his wife of forty-eight
years, Mildred Mae Hayes Dalton of Dublin; two sons, Michael Edward Dalton,
Sr. of Blacksburg and Tom Dalton of Draper; daughters, Sharon Elaine Dalton
of Dublin, Mary Jane Dalton of Christiansburg and Deborah Dalton Havens

great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be

Lewis Earl Davidson, age 71, of Pulaski, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998.
He was born Oct. 11, 1926 in Saltville, the son of the late Soney Davidson and Mabel Olinger Davidson. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Radford, and had been a resident of Pulaski for 44 years.
Mr. Davidson was retired from Southland Life Ins. Co., and worked part time for Continental Western Life and Settlers Life Ins. Co.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Robinson Davidson; two sons, Roger L. Davidson and wife Jeanie, Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Allen S. Davidson and wife Martha, Rockingham, N.C.; one grandson, Bradley P. Davidson, Deerfield Beach, Fla.; one granddaughter, Emily M. Davidson, Rockingham, N.C.; two brothers, Bobby Davidson, Saltville, and Irvin Davidson, Newport, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs. Herbert "Dreama" Warren, Winston-Salem, N.C., and Mrs. David "Norma" Taylor, Martinsville; two aunts, Mrs. Jack Haynes and "Susies," Saltville, and Mrs. Katherine Hawthorne, Bristol, Tenn.; many nephews, nieces, and cousins; three special friends, Melvin Tolbert, Mrs. Margaret Thompson, and Jesse Kerns.

Dr. Douglas Shelburne DIVERS the last surviving member of the Pulaski doctors who organized the Pulaski Hospital, died Friday night in the Broward General Hospital Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Born Aug. 17, 1892 in Rocky Mount, he was the son of the late Peyton Dewitt DIVERS and Henrietta HUDSON DIVERS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucretia FLANSBURG DIVERS, and retired in 1971, Educated at Fork Union Military Academy he received his medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia in 1917. During his intern years he served at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Roanoke. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War I and started practice in Pulaski in 1924 as a surgeon after being associated with medical facilities in Martinsville, and Boston, Mass. Admitted to the American College of Surgeons in 1935, he was a member of the American Medical Association, The Medical Society of Virginia, the Southwestern Virginia Medical Society and the Southern Medical Association.
