ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND INFORMATION ANALYSIS (AIIA) LAB

DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATICS, UNIVERSITY OF THESSALONIKI
PROFILE
The AIIA Lab at the University of Thessaloniki is an active research group working for more than one decade in multimedia/digital image processing and related areas. It consists of three faculty members, 3 Postdoc researchers, 5 researchers and 15 PhD students.

Its topics of interest span the areas of digital image/video processing, computer vision, watermarking and IPR protection, biometrics, cultural heritage conservation, 3D image medical image processing, distance learning, virtual reality in medicine/dentistry, speech processing, signal processing, language engineering. It has undertaken the following projects in those areas recently:

  28. Neumann Network, TEMPUS project on parallel processing. It is funded by the EC.

As a result of this research more than 420+ publications in international scientific journals, and conference proceedings, 7 books and 15 book chapters have been published.

Such books are "Nonlinear Digital Filters: Principles and Applications" (Kluwer, 1990), ‘3D image processing algorithms’ (Wiley 2000), "Digital Image Processing Algorithms" (Prentice Hall, 1993), ‘Digital image processing algorithms and applications’ (Wiley 2000), ‘Digital image processing’ (in Greek, 1999), "Parallel Algorithms and Architectures for Digital Image Processing, Computer Vision and Neural Networks" (Wiley, 1993), ‘Nonlinear Model-Based Image/Video Processing and Analysis’ (Wiley 2000). We have organized and hosted IEEE NSIP1995, the biggest international scientific event on image processing IEEE ICIP2001 and we co-organize the 2003 International workshop on Interactive multimedia Content Production.

The group has strong cooperation with other Universities, research centers and industrial partners in the area of its interests through projects mainly funded by the European community.
