About the Artists A former member of the Dallas Brass, Delaware Symphony, and Waco Symphony, Jason Ayoub currently serves as Principal Horn of the United States Navy Band and Brass Quintet. Past performances have included the symphonies of Baltimore, Louisville, and Utah. Luis Engelke is Principal Trumpet of the Lancaster, Kennett, and Mid Atlantic Symphony Orchestras and Endless Mountain Music Festival Orchestras. He serves as Vice President for the Baltimore Musicians Association and a regular contributing author to the International Trumpet Guild Journal. Rene Hernandez is Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with such ensembles as the Boston Symphony, International Symphony in Jerusalem, Orquestra Sinfonica de Galicia in Spain, and Orquestra Singonica del Estado de Mexico. Principal Tuba of the United States Navy Band and Brass Quintet, James Hicks joins the faculty at the start of this academic year. A current member of the Board of Directors for the International Tuba and Euphonium Association, his past performances have included appearances with the Chicago and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestras. Principal Percussionist with Opera Lafayette of Washington, D.C., Michelle Humphreys regularly performs with Washington Bach Consort, Folger Consort, Tempesta di Mare of Philadelphia, Handel Choir of Baltimore, and Bach Sinfonia. She serves on the artist faculty of the National Music Festival. David Perkel is Principal Trombone of the Annapolis Symphony Lead Trombonist with the Navy Band Jazz Commodores. A former member of the Richmond Symphony, past performances have included the National Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, and the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestras. Faculty Collaborators A past member of the orchestra for the Broadway revival of 42nd St., Dave Ballou has performed or recorded with ensembles led by Rabih Abou-Kahlil, Steely Dan, Woody Herman, Andrew Hill, John Hollenbeck, and Dave Liebman. Solo appearances have included Bella Musica Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra, and the Spokane Symphony. Prior to joining Towson University, Christopher Cicconi held positions and guest conducting appointments with orchestras in the United States, Argentina, and China. Most recently he served as associate conductor with the Broward Symphony Orchestra, the Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra, and the Walenstein Youth Symphony. A recent recipient of a Maryland Arts Council Individual Award for Classical Performance, Diane Luchese has contributed to several scholarly fields with including publications in Sonus and The American Organist. Her album Light and Dark and In Between was released on the Raven label. Cristina Magaldi has been recognized by organizations such as the Guggenheim Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, and American Musicological Society. Her extensive list of publications includes her book Imperial Rio de Janeiro: European Culture in a Tropical Milieu and texts released by Oxford University Press, Rowan and Littlefield, and Norton. Formerly lead trombonist with the US Jazz Ambassadors, James McFalls has performed and recorded with Dave Liebman, Denis DiBlasio, Clark Terry, Tim Hagans, Christian McBride, and Jon Faddis. Other notable performances include Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Great American Music Ensemble, and Kennedy Center Orchestra. A member of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Margaret McGillivray can regularly be heard with ensembles such as the Baltimore and National Symphony Orchestras, as well as Concert Artists of Baltimore. Past performances have included the Phoenix and Tuscon Symphony Orchestras. Musicologist Aaron Ziegel’s research interests include such diverse outlets as American opera, film music, American popular song, and the eighteenth-century keyboard sonata. His writings have appeared in the journals American Music, The Opera Journal, Music Research Forum, American Music Review, Nineteenth-Century Contexts, and the Journal of the Society for American Music. Alumni and Students Freshman Samuel Alexander is pursuing a degree in economics and a minor in music performance. He has performed with the Maryland All State Band, the NAfME All Eastern Band, and the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra. Currently a junior, Joshua Fleming is enrolled in a dual degree program for Music Education and Music Performance. He has performed with the Greenspring Valley Orchestra, Londontowne Symphony, and Chesapeake Youth Symphony. A member of the Lancaster and Mid Atlantic Symphony Orchestras, alumnus Guy McIntosh is Principal Trumpet as well as Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Pennsylvania Philharmonic. He serves as contractor for the Basilica of the Assumption and has performed with the Barclay Brass. Senior Richard Segovia is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance. He received a Kaplan Scholarship to attend the Endless Mountain Music Festival and has performed with ensembles such as the Screaming Art Large Ensemble and at many local venues including Roland Park Presbyterian Church. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Music in Percussion Performance, Braeden Travers has had the opportunity to perform with various regional ensembles, such as the Harford Youth Orchestra, the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Bel Air Community Band, and the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra. Justin Woodbury transferred from the Community College of Baltimore County. In his first year at TU, he was awarded the Talent Award for the Brass Area.
