Cavender", "Catherine Cavender", “Katherine Cavender”, “Hetty Cavender”?, “Ketty Cavender” & "Kitty Cavender") born on either March 25, 1804476, or on February 3, 1803476, 493 494 & 511, February 2, 1803 or on February 3, 1806443, married Isaac Head on September 14, 1820494 in Hall County, Georgia FHL Number 424630, died on either March 6, 1885476, 493, 494 & 511, or on June 8, 1886443 in Hall County, Georgia, and is buried with her husband either in the Cavender-Barnes family cemetery near Murrayville in Hall County, Georgia or in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County, Georgia.430 Isaac Head was the brother of Charles Head above and was the son of John Head and Lucy Anidel. Isaac Head and Katherine Cavender Head (“Katherine Head”) had 10 children:

The cemetery is located to the left of Highway 60, across the Toccao River, at the foot of Cavender Ridge at the edge of a field which is near the Union County, Georgia and Fanning County, Georgia Lines. Lucretia Pearce was born on December 20, 1808, died August 27, 1887 in Lumpkin County, Georgia, and is buried with her husband. William Cavender served in the Indian Wars, and was involved in the removal of the Cherokee Indians from Union County, Georgia in March 1837. The 1850 census of Union County, Georgia enumerates William Cavender as being 44 years of age and born in Virginia; his wife Lucretia Cavender as being age 42; and their children were: Andrew Cavender ("Clemeth Andrew Cavender") age 23 and born about 1827; George Cavender ("George Washington Cavender", “George W. Cavender” & “G.W. Cavender”) age 21 and born about 1829; Elizabeth Cavender age 19; Visann Cavender age 17; Nancy Cavender age 12; John Cavender age 6; and, Joseph Cavender age 2. William Cavender and Lucretia Cavender apparently had 11 children:

He first married Elvina Poston (“Elrina Poston” & “Elrina Posten”) on either December 19, 1852 or on December 19, 1850511 in Lumpkin County, Georgia. FHL Number 281677 He later married Elizabeth Self on September 6, 1874 in Union County, Georgia with the ceremony being performed by Justice of the Peace A.P. Davis, died June 6, 1897, and is buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Union County, Georgia. Elvina Poston was born in 1829 and died by 1870. Clemeth Cavender and Elvina Posten Cavender (“Elvina Cavender”) had 6 children:



Nancy Jane Cavender ("Nancy Cavender" & “N.J. Cavender”) born about 1853 in Union County, Georgia, and who apparently married either Isaac Head or Washington Head. (According to the "Hall County History- Descendants of the Clemeth Cavenders", published May 27 1973 in The Times in Gainesvill, Georgia, she was the daughter of William Cavender or "Bill Cavender" and married Washington Head.) Washington Head and Nancy Head apparently had 7 children and are both buried in the Cavender-Barnes Cemetery near Murrayville in Hall County, Georgia. The children of Washington Head and Nancy Head were:

Ann Head; and,

Lovicle Head ("Louvice Head"?);

William Young Cavender ("William Cavender", “William Y. Cavender”, “W.Y. Cavender” & "Bud Cavender") born April 21, 1855 in Union County, Georgia, married Emma Woody, died October 17, 1901, and both he and Emma Cavender are buried in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Union County, Georgia. Emma Woody was born September 7, 1857 and died December 18, 1951. William Cavender and Emma Cavender had 5 children:

William Edgar Cavender ("William Cavender" & “W.E. Cavender”) born in February 1890;

Fannie Cavender born May 18, 1891;

Elizabeth Cavender ("Bessie Cavender") born September 7, 1892, married a Walker, died December 18, 1951, and is buried in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Union County, Georgia. Elizabeth Walker had 2 children:

Dorothy Walker born June 10, 1923 and died August 17, 1924; and,

J.D.Walker born November 24, 1925 and died January 18, 1929;

Reid Cavender born June 6, 1891? and married a Weist. He may be the same Reid Cavender who married Hattie Mae Harkins (“Hattie Harkins” & “Hattie Hawkins”?), and who had the following children:

Dorothy Cavender born June 10, 1923 in Baxter, Georgia;

Paul Cavender born March 18, 1925 in Greenville, South Carolina, served in the U.S. Navy, married Sharlene Mallincopp, and presently live in Ninety Six, South Carolina. Sharlene Mallincopp was born January 20, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio. Paul Cavender and Sharlene Cavender had about 7 children and several grandchildren;



Velma Ruth Cavender (“Velma Cavender” & “V.R. Cavender”) born December 13, 1926 in Baxter, Georgia, married Clayton Henry Kernell (“Clayton Kernell”) on May 19, 1950, was later divorced, and died October 18, 2000 in Laurens, South Carolina. Clayton Kernell was born March 14, 1930,moved to Kentucky after the divorce, and was a Builder Second Class in the U.S. Navy Seabees stationed in Guam when he was killed in an auto accident in 1972. Clayton Kernell and Velma Kernell had 2 children:

David Stanley Kernell (“David Kernell”) born August 23, 1954 in Woodruff, South Carolina; and,

Michael Terry Kernell (“Michael Kernell”) born March 3, 1956 in Laurens, South Carolina;

J.D. Cavender born November 14, 1928 in Baxter, Georgia; and,

Ronald Baker Cavender (“Ronald Cavender” & “R.B. Cavender”) born july 4, 1944 in Laurens, South Carolina, and married a Virginia?. Ronald Cavender and Virginia Cavender had a son named:

Brian Cavender who was murdered in the early 1990's in North Carolina; and,

Fred Cavender (“Frederick Cavender”?) born April 18, 1900, resided in Spingdale, North Carolina, and died May 24, 1956;

George Washington Cavender ("George Cavender", “George W. Cavender” & “G.W. Cavender”) born November 21, 1856 in Union County, Georgia, and died August 2, 1938;

Robert Cavender born about 1860 in Union County, Georgia;

Elvina Cavender born about 1862 in Union County, Georgia; and,

Kate Cavender (“Katherine Cavender”?) born about 1864 in Union County, Georgia;

Thuressa Emma Cavender ("Thuressa Cavender", “T.E. Cavender” & "Thuress Cavender"), a twin born about 1879 in Union County, Georgia;

As an added note, it is recorded in a Union County, Georgia publication that on February 2, 1891, Mrs. M.E. Cavender ("Elizabeth Cavender"?) was appointed the guardian of her minor children Sarah B. Cavender, ("Sarah Cavender"), William C. Cavender ("William Cavender"), Vesti Cavender ("Vasti Cavender"?), Thersa Cavender (“Theresa Cavender”? & "Thuressa Cavender"?) and Mary A. Cavender ("Mary Cavender");

(iii) GEORGE WASHINGTON CAVENDER ("George W. Cavender", "George Cavender", “G.W. Cavender” & "Watt Cavender") born December 30, 1829 in Hall County, Georgia, first married Nancy Louisa Gurley (“Nancy Gurley”) on January 4, 1857 in Lumpkin County, GeorgiaFHL Number 281677, next married her sister Jane Gurley on May 21, 1865 in Union County, Georgia with the ceremony being conducted by Justice of the Peace Allen Gaddis, died on either November 1, 1897494 or on June 6, 1897 in Union County, Georgia, and is buried in Mt. Pleasant, Union County, Georgia. Jane Gurley was born about 1839, was the daughter of Henry Burch Gurley ("Henry Gurley") who was born about 1838 and Rebecca Miles, was the sister of Jane Gurley, was married about 1860, and died about 1863. Her sister, Nancy Gurley, was born May 25, 1840, died either on February 24, 1912 or on February 14, 1912420, and is buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Union County, Georgia. On November 6, 1835, George Cavender was a second lieutenant in the Indian Wars from Hall County, Georgia. By the first marriage, George Cavender and Nancy Cavender had 2 children:



William Thomas Willis Cavender ("William Cavender", “W.T.W. Cavender”, “W.T. Cavender” & "Thomas Cavender") born 1859 in Union County, Georgia, and married Nancy Ann Head ("Nancy Head") before 1863 and apparently later married Georgia Ann V. Harkins ("Georgia Harkins") on August 24, 1880 in Union County, Georgia with Justice of the Peace J.B. Poindexter performing the ceremony. William Cavender and Nancy Cavender had 5 children:

Sally Cavender ("Sarah Cavender");

Homer Cavender;

Della Cavender; and,

Mary Cavender; and,

Nancy Ann Cavender ("Nancy Cavender" & “N.A. Cavender”) born 1861 in Union County, Georgia, and married John Doe Gilreath;

By his second marriage, the children of George Cavender and Jane Cavender were:

Wellborne Cavender ("Mellborne Cavender"?) born about 1862 in Union County, Georgia;

Mary Ann Cavender ("Mary Cavender", “M.A. Cavender” & Mary A. Cavender”) born September 23, 1865 in Union County, Georgia, remained unmarried, died January 21, 1935, and is buried in the Corinth Baptist Cemetery, Union County, Georgia. She was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church for 52 years;

James Henry Cavender ("James Cavender", “James H. Cavender”, “J.H. Cavender” & "Jim Cavender") born either on May 5, 1869 or on June 5, 1869426 in Union County, Georgia, married Ida Katherine Ledford ("Ida Ledford") on November 8, 1891 in Waycross, Union County, Georgia with Alfred Corn performing the ceremony, died December 3, 1951 in Waycross, Georgia, and is buried in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Waycross, Georgia. Ida Ledford was born on July 20, 1868 and died in April 1949. James Cavender and Ida Cavender had 8 children:

Ira Woodfin Cavender ("Ira Cavender" & “I.W. Cavender”) born on December 20, 1892 in Georgia, first married Clara Lois Vanlandingham ("Clara Vanlandingham") on December 24, 1917, later married Connie Jean Love ("Connie Love"), and died in October 1965 in Georgia. Connie Love was born about 1935. The Clara Vanlandingham was born on October 7, 1898 and died on January 25, 1989. Ira Cavender and Clara Cavender are buried in the Waycross City Cemetery. By his first marriage, Ira Cavender and Clara Cavender had a son named:

James Woodfin Cavender ("James Cavender", “J.W. Cavender” & “James W. Cavender”) born on November 30, 1918, married Frankie Mildred Whitley ("Frankie Whitley"), died about 1990, and is buried in the Waycross City Cemetery. Frankie Cavender was born on October 13, 1918, died about 1966, and is buried with her husband. By his first marriage, James Cavender and Mildred Cavender had 4 children:

Barbara Mildred Cavender ("Barbara Cavender" & “B.M. Cavender”) born on May 4, 1943, and married Girard Beaudreau ("Gerry Beaudreau");

James Woodfin Cavender, Jr. ("James Cavender", “J.W. Cavender” & “James W. Cavender”) born on February 8, 1950, married Therese Whalen ("Theresa Whalen"? & "Terri Whalen"). James Cavender and Therese Cavender ("Teresa Cavender"?) had 2 children:

Bradford James Cavender ("Bradford Cavender" & “B.J. Cavender”) born about 1982; and,

Michael Thomas Cavender ("Michael Cavender" & “M.T. Cavender”) born about 1985;

Jacob Woodfin Cavender ("Jacob Cavender" & “J.W. Cavender”); and,

Christopher Henley Cavender ("Christopher Cavender" & “C.H. Cavender”); and,

Peggy Ann Cavender ("Peggy Cavender" & “P.A. Cavender”), born on November 22, 1957, and married Steve Sowell ("Steven Sowell"? & "Stephen Sowell"?). Steve Sowell and Peggy Sowell had 2 children:

Carolyn Jeanette Cavender ("Carolyn Cavender" & “C.J. Cavender”) born on November 23, 1928, first married Paul A. Walker ("Paul Walker"), and later married O.C. Dell. Paul Walker was born about 1916, died about 1986, and is buried in the Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C. Paul Walker and Carolyn Walker had 2 children:

Debra Ann Walker ("Debra Walker") born on October 10, 1952, and married Benjamin Higgins. Benjamin Higgins and Debra Higgins had a daughter named :

Sarah Lynn Higgins ("Sarah Higgins") born January 25, 1980; and,

Phillip Ira Walker ("Phillip Walker") born on July 31, 1955;

Roy Earl Cavender ("Roy Cavender" & “R.E. Cavender”) born September 6, 1931, married Beverly Hendryx ("Beverly Hendrix"?) who was born on December 21,1935, and apparently lived in Kennesaw, Georgia. Roy Cavender and Beverly Cavender had a son named:

Michael Roy Cavender ("Michael Cavender" & “M.R. Cavender”) born about 1972; and,

John Hugh Cavender ("John Cavender" & “J.H. Cavender”) born on December 13, 1936, married Kathleen D. Hales ("Kathleen Hales") who was born on June 22, 1943, and were later divorced. John Cavender and Kathleen Cavender had 4 children:

Lisa Carol Cavender ("Lisa Cavender" & “L.C. Cavender”) born November 27, 1965, and married Randall Hugh Wofford ("Randall Wooford" & "Randall Wofford"?) who was born about 1963. Randall Wooford and Kathleen Wooford had a son named:

Ada Schuler was born on June 21, 1897 and is buried with her husband;

Ledford Washington Cavender ("Ledford Cavender" & “L.W. Cavender”) born July 30, 1896 in Georgia, married Allie Maude Brantley ("Allie Brantley") on November 16, 1919, died in January 1985 in Jacksonville, Florida, and is buried in Jacksonville, Florida.
