Have you ever wondered how that device in your pocket began? One of the most popular phones ever? Well, I can tell you all about it.
This now common software that you might be familiar with, called IOS. IOS is the operating system for Apple products. January 9th, 2007, the iPhone was just released. IOS 1 just came out to run the iPhone. Five years forward, Apple has made a new world of phones and tablets. IOS was quite similar to Mac OS X, and that’s how IOS was given its name. The same processor and tools that Apple decides to make the new software be called OS. The other software had more features than IOS. But that didn't matter to Apple. They didn't care about small things, they wanted software the main part to be the best; to make that part better than other mobile software. iPhone was the first device that had a good enough touch screen so that you can use your finger, and what I mean by that is that other devices didn't have a touch screen that was good with your finger. The iPhone was easier to use and had extra power than earlier mobile softwares. OS 1 was had capabilities that can do amazing things. Like pinching to zoom, and scrolling. The Safari mobile browser was advanced. One of the built in apps, was Google Maps. Google Maps on iPhone is actually simpler and more user-friendly than the PC version. Apple included something called Visual Voicemail. Visual Voicemail is just what it sounds like. It’s your voicemail, and you can click on it to play the message. It’s a lot better than having to go through the whole “press 1 to delete the recording” thing.
There were some things that are horrible about IOS 1, like if a built in 3rd party app, (apps that are made by a different company that are on other companies products) stops working or gets broken, you have to go to the creator of the app has to fix it. Like for example, if a Google Maps on the iPhone gets stops working, Google has to fix it. Some consumers said that the iPhone really isn't a smartphone. The reason for these people to state of this is because the only thing great about this new phone is that it has a better web browser, and other than that, it’s just a normal phone. Now that I have realized that IOS 1 is bad, I actually see that one my dad’s old phones was actually better than the iPhone. Another thing is that there is one way to multitask, which is doing something while playing music, such as you are playing music and texting. This operating system had something called the Springboard. The Springboard is something when you have an iPhone, IPad, or iPod touch, you are in an app, and you hit the home button. The thing that it shows after you hit the home button is the Springboard. Soon IOS 1.1.1 came out and two things about it is that it had the iTunes wifi music store. Now, instead of having to go to your computer, you can buy music from your phone, but only with wifi. It also has the capability to be on the iPod, and if you hit the home button 2 times, it will show up a multitasking row where you tap an application's icon and it opens the app to where you were on it. Later on, IOS 1.1.3 came out.
You can move the icons and you can make a shortcut for websites on your phone. These shortcuts look like apps, and they were on the Springboard, so it made is quite easy, but it was also a competition against Androids shortcuts. After IOS 1 came IOS 2. In my opinion, this is one of the best updates ever! This update made me think totally different about IOS. Now this phone was better than my dad's. It started in July 2008. The thing that changed my opinion was that they put the appstore that came in this update! The appstore was the place where you can get apps for any apple device (including the Mac) The appstore and iTunes shared credit, which means that if put in money for iTunes, it's already on the appstore credit. These apps were so sophisticated that companies tried to make them over the years. Some of them were 3D and they also have better graphics. Another thing is that apps were cheaper on the iPhone. Apple then added the ability to search contacts and put Microsoft Exchange on the email app. Apple also made Mobileme. Mobileme was something like iCloud, it kept all your data from your phone onto it, except it was first and cost $99 a year.
IOS 3 came out and Apple made some changes in the software so that people will like the it better. One thing they did was add copying and pasting. This feature didn't work well with finger s, but Apple made it work better worn the finger. What they did was they added the magnifying glass so you can see words better., and you can move them easily. Apple also made a search that searches the phone for this like contacts, emails, etc. This search was called spotlight search. They made a thing called push notifications. Push notifications show the user a message about an app and tells them at any time. If you don't like it you can change how it tells you and you can turn it off. IOS 3 gave mms support and video recording, a landscape keyboard, a voice memo app, remote wipe, stereo Bluetooth, and internet tethering over Bluetooth or USB came. Apple did add voice control, something like siri, but not add good as siri. Now you can control music, dial numbers etc from voice control. Basically it just did system things, not tell you math problems or go to Google. IOS 3 had Bluetooth, focus with Camera, compass, part iPod music on 3rd party apps, find my iPhone, and a sideways keyboard. After IOS 3.1.3, the iPhone 2g and original iPod could no longer have software updates.
IOS 3.2 was the first OS to go on the iPad. Since the iPad had a bigger screen, Apple made some changes in the built-in apps. The photo app had the photos in different groups and they were stacked. On notes, a list was on the side. That went with a lot of built-in apps. On the iPhone, you had to go through a list. Same with notes, settings, the appstore, email, and contacts. The only list on the appstore was when you searched. With contacts you clicked a contact and the contact shows up on the other side. On email, the only list was when you were searching for an email to select. Same with notes and settings. Another thing was that some built-in apps looked more realistic, like notes or contacts.
IOS 4 gave IOS quite some features. These features were really good. You can make folders, spell check, etc. These features were made to make customers like the OS and to be competitive. you could talk while you're in the phone app. You can get out of apps, and when you get back in, it will be where you were at before, etc. To get to the multitasking bar, you had to hit the home button twice. You can get to other apps and stop them from running. One thing aws a really good for family and friends. Apple created FaceTime. FaceTime lets you connect to Apple devices and video chat, just like Skype, but, at that time you could only FaceTime iPhone to iPhone. A great thing for every body is folders. Folders let you keep some apps in on app worth of space, and you can name the folders to be organized. The iPhone 4 had something called a retina display. This allowed people that made apps have less work to do because the older iPhones had a didn't display, they had to convert it. IOS 4.1 gave the OS Game Center. Game Center was a place where you could have the capabilities to connect with your friends and challenge each other in games. IOS 4.2.1 included Airplay, which lets you connect your Apple devices to other Apple devices. It also gave the iPad folders and multitasking features. IOS 4.2.5 had Verizon support and personal hotspots for CDMA phones. IOS 4.3 gave GSM phones personal hotspots and Airplay for 3rd party apps.
IOS 5 gave lots of features to IOS. First of all, obviously, Siri. Siri was like a person that you could talk to, and gave you answers or does commands. Sometimes doesn't work, but it still is pretty good. They also added Notification Center. To open Notification Center, you just need to pull down from the top of the screen. You can change how it displays the notification or if you don't want notifications for certain apps. This can be done in Settings. Then there's iMessages. iMessages lets you text people that have the iPhone, iPod, and iPad for free, but the iPod and iPad can only text Apple devices. iCloud was used to replace MobileMe, and really, it was better. You can backup all the data on your device, and you can purcase something on one device, and get it on the other. There as reminders, Newstand, and a reader function for websites so that you can read its content easily. And Apple added a built-in Twitter.
IOS 6 is what I would call one of the most major IOS updates in history. The main reason is that Apple took out all of the built-in Google apps on the iPhone, and replaced one of then. That one was, Google Maps, replaced with Maps. Maps had Siri, a turn by turn navigation, and 3D. Siri got a huge upgrade. You can open apps with it, view scores, post stuff on Facebook and Twitter, and do quite some more. Apple also added Facebook built-in. Passbook lets you get tickets, coupons, etc and stores it. It can really make some competition with Google WalletThere is another thing called iCloud tabs, which are saved tabs that show up on all of your devices. The Reading List in IOS 5 had only saved websites, IOS 6 gives it the ability to save the webpages content.
My opinion about IOS 7 is that it was the most major update in all of IOS history. The design is totally diffrent, and there's a lot more features. i also think it’s the worst update of all of Apples history. Apple made the apps look totally diffrent and they also look 3D and really good. The keyboard also look diffrent, as well as the apps, when you open them. The control center is something special. It's a thing where you can easily change some common settings and go to some built in apps, but flashlight is only available for iPhone and maybe iPod. Apple also added an old sharing program from OSX Lion. It's called AirDrop. AirDrop lets you share data between others near you. Safari as well has some differences. The Google search bar isn't there, instead, you can search using the URL bar. Some apps that were paid apps, are now free. Apple made a weather app that has great animations, but no Widgets. Widgets are only available for android and some phones with a Microsoft operating system. There's also the addition of the iTunes Radio. It's just like Pandora. There's songs on demand, and there's also radio stations you can listen to, but only music radio stations. In Camera, there's some new things. The capture button is basically just a white circle, and you can acess your photos by tapping a square. There used to be two modes, photo and video. Now there's more modes, such as square, which is the only new mode available for the iPad. There's also Panoromic, and other ones. The iPhone five has many filters and a sensor that can detect light for auto brightness. It also has a dual led flash which is a great one. There's also the slow motion camera that's also in the iPhone 5s. The photos app is organized by date. The multitasking is better, but same operations. It shows what you were doing on the app, so its easier, plus it's also easier to get rid of recent apps. IOS 7 has automatic updates, so you don't need to do anything. Plus, the iPhone 5s has a touch ID for a pass code.
Apple has made many other things. The Mac, it was one of the first computers with a GUI. The Apple 2, which was a ultimate success. Apple TV, access iTunes and other Apple things of your TV. The Lisa, a pretty bad failure. Jobs quitting Apple, making a failing company, joined Pixar, and got back to Apple. Now the Mac is better and fits well in the modern world.

Now the Mac is better and fits well in the modern world.
used to replace MobileMe, and really, it was better. You could backup all the data on your device, and you could purchase something on one device, and get it on the other. There are reminders, Newsstand, and a reader function for websites so that you can read its content easily. And Apple added a built-in Twitter.
IOS 6 is what I would call one of the most major IOS updates in history. The main reason is that Apple took out all of the built-in Google apps on the iPhone, and replaced one of them. Passbook lets you get tickets, coupons, etc. and stores it. It can really make some competition with Google Wallet. There is another thing called iCloud tabs, which are saved tabs that show up on all of your devices. The Reading List in IOS 5 had only saved websites, IOS 6 gives it the ability to save the webpages content.
My opinion about IOS 7 is that it was the most major update in all of IOS history. The design is totally different, and there's a lot more features. I also think it’s the worst update of all of Apple’s history. Apple made the apps look totally different and they also look 3D and really good. The keyboard also look different, as well as the apps, when you open them. The capture button is basically just a white circle, and you can access your photos by tapping a square. There used to be two modes, photo and video. Now there's more modes, such as square, which is the only new mode available for the iPad. There's also Panoramic, and other ones.
