I was interested in the history of migration and the possible ways to get into a country after having a recent conversation with my parents. For this topic of migration, it was also compelling seeing the positive and negative effects of having the wet-foot dry foot policy. For example, the dry-foot people where those who managed to make it to US land by boat were allowed to stay and become legal residents, this provided a safe haven as Cubans needed to escape political persecution in their homeland. On the other hand, if they we caught by the US coast guard they would be sent back to Cuba (wet foot). This was controversial because it was viewed as special treatment from the government and made immigration services look like a joke. There have been other illegal immigrants who have come for the same economic reason but are not given the similar chance. This policy angered many people waiting in line for years to have citizenship and access to the opportunities in America.
