| Injuries Associated With Cribs, Playpens, and Bassinets Among Young Children in the US, 1990-2008.
According to recent article published in Pediatrics-Cribs, Playpens Pose Unacceptable Level of Danger. Yeh and colleagues (2011) used nationally representative data from the U.S. National Electronic Injury Surveillance System to examine emergency room visits associated with injuries sustained in playpens, cribs, and bassinets. The study found that over 80% of injuries involved cribs, and two thirds involved falls. (It should be noted that an average of 113 crib-related deaths occurred annually.) This study further cite that the cribs and playpens "represents an unacceptable level of danger, highlighting the need for continued improvements in product design, especially to prevent falls from cribs."
