_{Course Description}

Of the three dynamics of the interviewing process-questioning, detecting, deception and persuasion – the last element –persuasion – most often proves to be the most challenging requiring the highest level of knowledge, skill and ability.

The interviewer as a persuader is faced with the additional challenges of ensuring that the cooperation is voluntary and that nothing has been done within the interview that would cause someone to make an admission to something that was not true.
The session involves participant analysis of actual interviews as well as debriefings from those who sat in the interviewee’s chair as to why they made the admission, why they did not make the admission and the role of the interviewer in their decision

Given a set of case and interviewee related information, the participant will:

1. Identify the three (3) most salient elements most conductive to compliance gaining within the conduct of the interview;

2. Develop and present an appropriate interview compliance – gaining _strategy;

4. Provide an alternative compliance - gaining approach to that same set of circumstances and interviewee.

The primary instructor is Retired Chief of Police S.A. Rhoads. Chief Rhoads is a 40 year police veteran with experience in Virginia, Colorado and Illinois. Rhoads is an internationally recognized expert in the field of Subconscious Communication® and has published several articles on the subject. He has instructed for the past 35 years and has been utilized by several agencies to assist in the interrogation of suspects in major felony cases. His research in the field of behavioral science aids the student in obtaining a comprehensive view of the material from both an academic and practical perspective. Dr. Rhoads holds a Doctorate Degree in Behavioral Science from Union Institute & University, a Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado and is a three-time Medal of Valor recipient.
