Ethics PHIL 2203 NOTES
Possible Objections
Abuse: people who buy children may do so to subject them to sexual abuse or otherwise to exploit them.
There are laws against child abuse, and they will still be there if there is a market for babies.
The rich would get all the babies or, at least, the best. Wealthy usually have fewer children compared to poor. Wealthy population is small, so they won’t be adopting all the desirable babies.
It involves the spectacle of trafficking inhuman lives
We could reduce the # of abortions if there was a market for babies strong incentive to bring baby to term and put it up for adoption. “Is paying a pregnant woman to carry the child to term so offensive an alternative to the abortion of a
foetus?”
“the basis of which is unclear (the basis of the objection of trafficking humans) → talking about economics and the marketplace the only morality of the marketplace is the rules of the DSP. There is no other morality of the marketplace. This objection doesn’t have to do with this morality.
The market solution is not a complete panacea it is probably not usable in the case of the neglected or abused child.
The market price of most such children would probably be negative. That is why the state must pay the foster parents or foster home to raise the child If you’ve been abused, you have negative value

If left to operate freely, the market will eliminate the issues of DS; those seeking to adopt will be efficiently matched with those waiting to be adopted.
