Atlantis is an ancient legend. It was said to be a continent island in the Atlantic Ocean. It was named by Plato, an ancient Greek philosopher. It was described as a powerful empire with advanced civilization, that conquered parts of Europe and Africa. Atlantis was very wicked, and the gods that ruled the kingdom sank it into the sea. Plato took written work from Solon, another philosopher and elaborated on it more. He put in some of his own ideas/facts. According to Solon, Atlantis was 800,000 sq. miles. He also stated that 9,000 years before 4^th century B.C. Atlantis disappeared again a second time. It is one of the world’s greatest mysteries. For over 2,000 years people have been wondering if it ever existed.

Atlantis has been a mystery for many years. In the middle ages various Atlantic islands were identified with Atlantis. People have been trying to find the exact location of where Atlantis might have been. For over 2,000 years people have been wondering if Atlantis was real or if it ever existed. No one has yet found great evidence to prove Atlantis ever existed. According to sources Atlantis had plenty of food, fresh water, and the animals roamed freely. It was very exotic and beautiful, everyone loved the atmosphere.

Both Plato and Solon have stated that Atlantis had a very wealthy and rich economy. Some scholars think it is a myth, but others really do believe it existed. Also many scholars think it refers to the Ancient Minoan civilization of Crete in Europe which disappeared in the 1400 B.C. before Solon. Crete was shattered by a volcano around the same time Atlantis disappeared. Not all scholars are agreeing that Atlantis disappeared by a volcano but are saying a tsunami is to blame.
