Multimedia Costume Designer
Chu Uroz studied at the Barcelona and Vallès Schools of Architecture, before specializing in industrial design at Elisava School of Design. In 1971 he won four awards of motorcycle design. In 1985 he began working with Basi, SA-Lacoste and joined the firm Armand Basi, Barcelona menswear as main designer. Basi was at the Paris Fashion Week fashion shows while Chu was the main Designer, during the 90ʼs.
In 1992 Uroz participated in the Artistic Direction of the ceremonies of the Olympic Games at Barcelona. Chu designed the Asics/Tiger Onnitsuka for the Japanese brand. A Sport shoe, with lighting elements, used by the mythical archer responsible of lightning the Olympic Flame, one of the most emblematic images of the history of the Olympic Games. Chu received the Gold Award for its Peseta conceptual work at the Barcelona Olympic Games.
With the band U2, Chu has worked as a special stage and Wardrobe Consultant. Chu has also worked as Production Designer, Curator and Art Director at several films of famous Director Bigas Luna such as: Jamón, jamón, Huevos de Oro, La Juani, Di Di Hollywood, and special typeface design for experimental graphic design program FUSE NO.8, winner of the Academy of Graphic Arts Major Britain. From 1996 until 2000 Chu worked at Miami as Art Director at the MTV Latina.
In 1998 he started working with William Flores, awarded with three awards for the creative direction Laus catalogs for Dinamo, Blue Moon and William Flores. In 2000 Chu Uroz developed the costume designs and was in charge of the Art Direction for the operas created by La Fura dels Baus. In 2001 he colaborated in a multimedia exhibition created and produced by Michelin Foundation, as well as the opening ceremony of the Biennial of Valencia with La Fura dels Baus.
Since 2003 Chu Uroz is the President of MODAFAD, Non For Profit Association that belongs to centenary FAD, where he develops his artistic creativity. Chu has worked as Production Designer for the films Comedias Bárbaras, Gaudir Nouvelle. In 2007 Chu was awarded the Abbiati Prize by the productions of Das Rheingold and Die Walküre at the Palau de les Arts. In 2009, Chu worked as Multimedia Costume Designer for the opera Les Troyens by H. Berlioz, with the conductor Valery Guerguiev at the Palau de les Arts and Marinsky Theater of St. Petersburg.
In 2010, Chu developed the costumes for the Theatre of La Scala in Milan, the Opera Tannhauser Teacher Zubin Mehta and Carles Padrisa (Fura dels Baus). Uroz worked in 2012 on a project for the Opera of Cologne Parsifal Trilogy of the German composer Stockhausen, directed by La Fura dels Baus.
In 2012, La Fura dels Baus opened the Opera Season with Babylon, a World Premiere, Multimedia Costume Designed by Chu Chu is currently working on the Centenary of the Arena di Verona with the Verdi Opera Aida. La Fura dels Baus will be opening the season with this Opera. And also currently working at the Manuscrit del Segon Origen the latest film of Director Bigas Luna.
