The Educational Technology Department at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction will present a series of professional development (PD) opportunities in three formats: webinars, face-to-face PD workshops and online courses. These sessions target educators who want to learn how to use the standards and assessments for educational technology.


Each session or course is designed for a specific audience.

  1. Webinars: district curriculum directors and assessment coordinators

  2. Face-to-face PD workshops: K–12 teachers and teacher-librarians

  3. Online PD courses: teachers, teacher-librarians, administrators, curriculum specialists, instructional coaches, para-educators


Webinar: Common Core Standards, New Performance Tasks & the Educational Technology Assessments

These two webinars target district curriculum directors and assessment coordinators supporting the transition to Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the new Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) assessments.



Participants will learn how the OSPI-developed assessments for educational technology integrate the CCSS. They will also explore how the educational technology assessments model elements of the performance task component of the SBAC assessments.

Face-to-Face PD Workshop: How to Use & Score the Assessments for Educational Technology

These face-to-face PD sessions run for four hours and target K–12 teachers and teacher-librarians. Participants will learn how to use the educational technology assessments, and examine student exemplars and the scoring rubric.


Cost, Clock Hours & Registration

Face-to-face PD sessions are free.

Participants who complete the course will receive three, no-cost clock hours.

Online PD Courses



Course #1: Learn How to Use the Standards & Assessments for Educational Technology

This four-hour course targets teachers, teacher-librarians, administrators, curriculum specialists, instructional coaches, para-educators; educators who help students to develop collaborative skills, learn to innovate, and practice the tenets of safe, constructive digital citizenship. All can benefit from this online class.


Participants will learn about the structure and goals of Washington’s educational technology standards and assessments. Designed as a first course for educators with little or no experience using the educational technology standards or assessments, participants will complete a short assignment each week and contribute to online forums.

The course will accommodate three cohorts with start dates in February, March and April.

Course #2: In-depth Study & Practice with the Assessments for Educational Technology


This fifteen-hour course targets teachers and teacher-librarians. Participants will select an educational technology assessment and use it in their classrooms. Based on their experience with the assessment, participants will:

Contribute to online forums.

Reflect on their classroom experience.

Provide feedback about the assessment.

Share samples of student work.

Participants can register now through April 1, 2013. This course concludes Friday, May 24, 2013.

Participants who complete the course will receive 15, no-cost clock hours.
