One minute we were all excited and in full spirits and then it happened- the terrorist attack.

It was on the day of our school's annual festival. This year, we were to dress up as movie characters. I was going as Maleficent. My costume looked amazing and I couldn't wait to show it off. In the morning of the festival, the school yard was covered in beautiful colors from all the decorations and the air was teeming with excitement. There were so many kinds of amazing costumes that I couldn't help but feel self conscious of mine. Every class had a camp where class members could sit to rest or eat and drink or just hang out.

There was a parade showcasing the outfits of different cultures in Nigeria. The festival ganes were a huge hit especially the Dunkin' tank. People would pay good money to see their class reps get dunked in water. I played lots of games with my friend and won lots of prizes too. The food was so delicious and I'm pretty sure that was the most I ate in my life.

In the evening, we all moved to the stage were a talent show was held. The contestants were so amazing, it felt like a real concert. Everyone was having a good time, singing along and dancing. I decided to look around to see if there was something I haven't tried. Then, the bomb went off.

I was thrown to the ground by the blast; my head was pounding and my ears were ringing. There was silence for a while and then, three more blasts followed. It became complete mayhem. People were running, screaming and shouting and I just sat there in shock. I looked around me and saw the school buildings collapsed; all the booths were destroyed. Someone grabbed me by my by my arm and we just started running. I tripped on what I thought was a stone and fell, but when I turned around, it was a severed head. There were severed bodies all around me. People were inside out. Others were bleeding from various cuts on their skin. One young boy had his right leg completely blown off. He didn't even cry or scream; he just looked dazed. I saw a man whose lower half was crushed by a wall screaming for help, but no one paid him any attention. Another young boy was screaming for his mother. It was like a battle field; a scene from hell. There was so much blood everywhere.

Suddenly, three vans came out of nowhere. At first I thought they were there to help; but masked men with huge guns came out of the vehicles and began shooting at people. I got up and started running without any destination in mind. I tripped again and hit my head on a hard rock. I don't know how long I was out but the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a masked man, holding a gun, pointed at my face.

Just as he was about to pull the trigger, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around and it was my mother. She looked me in the eyes and said, 'Blessing it's 6:30. You need to get ready for school'. And then, I woke up.
