ENVIRONMENT IMPACT ASSESSMENT PREAMBLE Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a process of evaluating the likely environmental impacts of a proposed projector development, taking into account interrelated socioeconomic, cultural and human-health impacts, both beneficial and adverse. A decision-making tool, EIA compares various alternatives fora project and seeks to identify the one which represents the best combination of economic and environmental costs and benefits. The Indian experience with Environmental Impact Assessment began over 20 years back. It started in 1976-77 when the Planning Commission asked the Department of Science and Technology to examine the river-valley projects from an environmental angle. This was subsequently extended to cover those projects, which required the approval of the Public Investment Board. Till 1994, environmental clearance from the Central Government was an administrative decision and lacked legislative support. On 27 January 1994, the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MEF), Government of India, under the Environmental (Protection) Act 1986, promulgated an EIA notification making Environmental Clearance (EC) mandatory for expansion or modernization of any activity or for setting up new projects listed in Schedule 1 of the notification. Since then, there have been 12 amendments made in the EIA notification of 1994. The MoEF recently notified new EIA legislation in September 2006. The notification makes it mandatory for various projects such as

2 | Page mining, thermal power plants, river valley, infrastructure (road, highway, ports, harbors and airports) and industries including very small electroplating or foundry units to get environment clearance. However, unlike the
EIA Notification of 1994, the new legislation has put the onus of clearing projects on the state government depending on the size/capacity of the project. On 15
April, 2019, MoEFCC has issued zero draft EIA notification and on rd March 2020- the new draft EIA notification was issued in compliances with previous all amendments adding some new sectors with new dimensions. Due to public voices, it was not finalized in 2020. Still it is in draft stage to finalize the same. • Basic computer literacy. Program Duration The course's total duration will be 36 hrs. including practical / project work. Considering the schedule of Saturday half-hour and Sunday 2 and a half hour total weeks required to complete the course will be
12 weeks, i.e. approx. 3 Months Duration can be adjusted depending upon weekly hours available.

The program shall be evaluated fora total of 150 marks as follows. a) Continuous Evaluation (CE) in Theory Courses 20 Marks. This consists of a maximum of 5 marks for attendance calculated as follows. A student shall have a minimum of 75% attendance in a course to be eligible to appear in the external examination, failing which the student shall have to repeat the course. The remaining 20 marks shall be awarded by the course teacher based on the performance of the students in weekly fortnightly class tests, assignments, problem-solving, group discussions, quizzes, project reports, seminar participation, presentations, debates etc. b) Mid Term Examination (ME) in the course 20 marks. The course teacher shall conduct this examination. The maximum duration for the examination shall be one hour. A student to be eligible for appearing in the external examination shall score a minimum of 40% in (ab) together. c) External Examination (EE) in the course 30 marks. The external examination shall be conducted for 30 marks for half-hour and shall be conducted by the course teacher. There will be a practical performance-based examination on the real-life problem for the practical component of 60 Marks, and one and half hours will be given to complete the task. The passing criteria in the external examination are 40%.
The registrant will have to individually undergo one project within tenure to have hands on understanding with some class exercise based on software (open source. The registrant will be preparing a report based on the project and give practical viva-voce at the end of the allotted duration. The registrant can perform the project
