GREAT NEWS…NJ Dept. of Ed. has granted NJ SNA a waiver of the prohibition for reimbursement for overnight lodging - see below for details!
November 5 & 6, 2015 at the Tropicana Resort
Atlantic City, New Jersey
To all School Food Service Professionals:
You are cordially invited to attend NJ School Nutrition Association’s Annual Conference. This is a tremendous opportunity to receive up to date information on all the latest issues, participate in a variety of pertinent trainings, visit the many vendor exhibits to see the latest and greatest food, supplies and equipment offerings to help your programs succeed, and invaluable time to network with your peers and your industry partners!
And, now that USDA regulations require annual professional development hours for all school nutrition program staff, the conference provides one stop shopping to receive those credits!
You are encouraged to sign up early, no later than September 30, to receive a terrific deal of just $99.00 for the entire conference (for SNA members), which includes a FREE hotel room for the night of November 5th! Not a member? No worries: just sign up for membership prior to the conference and this unbelievable rate is yours also! SNA membership applications can be accessed on our website at www.nj-sna.org, or on the national School Nutrition Association website at www.schoolnutrition.org. For a limited time New Jersey is waiving state dues, so it’s a great time to join - only the national dues need to be paid, as noted on the application.
Below is the conference agenda, followed by a conference registration form, or you can register on-line at www.nj-sna.org.
Any questions, contact Janet Hawk, NJ SNA Executive Director at 973-570-6798 or at admin@nj-sna.org. See you in November!
Below is copied content of the letter received from NJ Department of Education Commissioner David C. Hespe, dated July 28, 2015, which allows schools to cover the cost for overnight lodging at this NJ SNA Annual Conference:
The New Jersey Department of Education is in receipt of your letter submitted on behalf of New Jersey School Nutrition Association, (NJ-SNA) requesting a waiver of the prohibition on in-State overnight travel in order to facilitate the hosting of the Annual Conference planned for November 5 and 6, 2015, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The conference promises to provide two full days of workshops highlighting mandatory training and workshops for all level of school foodservice professionals. I note that the program schedule for each of the two days offers multiple concurrent workshops from 9 a.m., through the evening each day, necessitating an overnight stay for two-day attendees. For these reasons the waiver request is granted. As a result of this waiver, school districts, charter schools and renaissance school projects will be able to reimburse attendees for overnight lodging on November 5. 2015, and should ensure that they approve attendance only of board members, trustees, and employees whose duties are related to the purposes of the conference or who are required to attend to meet continuing education requirements as a condition of continued employment. Moreover, please be advised that the waiver of the prohibition for reimbursement for overnight lodging covers only those attendees whose home to event commute exceeds 50 miles.
NOTE: A copy of the complete letter from Commissioner Hespe is available upon request.
