Scope of Work
Nursing Workforce Tracking Access Database
-
Introduction
In the past sixty years, the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (hereby know as M. D. Anderson) has built a worldwide reputation for excellence in cancer patient care. The art and science of nursing is a major reason M. D. Anderson maintains this worldwide reputation for excellence in cancer care. Superior nursing service has always been a key determinant in M. D. Anderson’s success, and that standard of excellence received international recognition when M. D. Anderson received “Magnet” hospital status – the highest nursing service award in the world.
Possessing an elite status among hospitals for providing outstanding patient care, M. D. Anderson seeks the services (hereby known as the Contractor) to provide administration of a user friendly Access Database that will have tracking and reporting capabilities.
-
Background
The M. D. Anderson’s Data Nursing Workforce department was formed in 2005 with the purpose of supporting and enhancing the professional development of its nursing workforce at all levels. We have programs to fit the needs of students, new graduates, current employees who want to pursue or advance their educations in nursing, and nurses who wish to develop their leadership skills at the bedside.
The following are the some examples of the programs currently offered with short descriptions of their respective programs:
Professional Student Nurse Extern - The PSNE program allows nursing students to work in a Magnet Recognized facility with an interdisciplinary health care team; offered both year-round and as a summer (May-August) session
New-Graduate Nurse Residency - The 15-month "Launch into Nursing" program addresses the clinical, leadership and socialization aspects of the new-graduate nurse's orientation at M. D. Anderson
Academic Nursing Cohorts - The cohort programs provide support to M. D. Anderson employees who are pursuing initial or advanced nursing degrees from accredited schools of nursing
Rising Stars - This year-long program is for experienced nurses who wish to develop their knowledge and skills for leading at the bedside
APN Fellowship - For advanced practice nurses this year-long program provides a core curriculum of clinical study that will ensure exposure to the entire spectrum of oncology care from prevention to end-of-life
Given that these programs are becoming increasingly complex to manage and as better empirical evidence is desired as a result of these programs, M. D. Anderson needs a database to help manage and report the outcomes. The database will be wholly owned by M. D. Anderson.
