Summary: The Great Smoky Mountain’s streams have been rated one of the top ten fishing spots in the National Forest. Brook trout, the only native species (and target of a restoration program), have been supplemented with brown trout and small mouth bass. Fish nearly 500 miles of stream in the park.13

Deep-sea bottom fish for red snapper, grouper, triggerfish, and amberjack on a party boat at rates beginning at $35. Party boats can handle groups of 25-104 people. The Destin Fishing Rodeo’s website http://www.destinfishingrodeo.org/html/2006_registered_boats.htm gives a good overview of both the party and hourly charter boats available in their area.
Gulf of Mexico, Port Fourchon, Louisiana (528 miles)
Go deep-sea fishing on a 24-hour charter boat. Fish for yellow-fin tuna, wahoo, dorado, and billfish like marlin, sailfish, and swordfish. Numerous charters are available along the Louisiana coast. No good summary website was found of charters available.
Columbia River, Portland, Oregon (2,473 miles)
Fish a salmon run from September through October on the Columbia River below Bonneville Dam.

Xtreme AdVenture Base, Scottsboro, Alabama (51 miles)
Xtreme AdVenture Base is a weeklong round robin of high adventure. Crews will canoe/kayak to an overnight on a Tennessee River island. They will backpack to an overnight at the Pinnacle, where they will learn and practice climbing and rappelling. The mountain bike program will include another overnight stay on the trail. The entire program is organized to include approximately 50 miles afloat/afoot or on bikes, with a cave exploration and a raft trip on the Ocoee River thrown in for good measure. Ranger Camp, Dahlonega, Georgia (217 Miles)
Go backpacking, climbing at ranger camp. This unique camp was featured in Boys' Life magazine (March 2000). It is conducted utilizing the facilities of the U.S. Army's Ranger School. Spend three nights in the barracks, and two nights camping at Majestic Mount Yonah. Army Ranger instructors and the BSA staff this $195 per person per trek.

Sea Kayaking Adventure Treks, Savannah, Georgia (442 miles)
Take advantage of our great team-building program. This program requires participants to be age 13. Participants undergo a two-day orientation to develop their kayaking, navigational, wilderness survival, and Leave No Trace camping techniques. Upon arrival, groups will undergo a medical history re-check (Class 3) and BSA Swimming Test followed by an introduction to sea kayaking, open-water rescue, and high-tech camping and cooking. Groups will depart from Camp Blue Heron and embark to one of many of our outpost campsites along the watery trail. Depending upon tides, the possibilities are Creighton Island, Cubbage Island, Sapelo Island, and Little Sapelo Island. While on your adventure, your group will travel through some of the most beautiful and pristine southeastern marshlands exploring areas of the Georgia Coastline. Studies in marsh ecology, conservation, and oceanography will be part of the adventure, as well as visiting many historical locations. Participants will have opportunities for swimming, fishing, crabbing, and shrimp net casting. The cost is $92 to $175 per person per trek.

Pamlico Sea Base is a High Adventure Camp located on the Pamlico River south of Washington, NC. The Sea Base program is centered around sea kayaking treks on the North Carolina Outer Banks and a sailing school on the historic Pamlico River. The Sea Base will also arrange scuba training/certification though accredited local instructors for interested campers. The cost is $300 to $375 per person per trek.

Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico (1163 miles)
Philmont is perhaps the Boy Scouts of America's premier high-adventure base. It challenges Scouts and Venturers with more than 200 square miles of rugged New Mexico wilderness. Reservations are now handled through an online lottery.
Sign-up is in October and November for a trek almost two years out. Started in the summer of 2004, the Double H High Adventure Base is Philmont Scout Ranch's newest program. In addition to regular expeditions for crews Philmont offers many special programs for smaller groups including: Rayado Trek, Roving Outdoor Conservation School, Mountain Treks, National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience, Order of the Arrow Trail Crew, Ranch Hands, and PhilBreak.
