Efficient transport is critical to New Zealand. It supports industry and commerce. It affects economic performance and our international competitiveness. It is one of the most pervasive service components in our lives. It is when we are denied access to good transport alternatives that we become aware of the impact of this industry. The more the world adopts the concepts of global markets, the greater the need for transport capacity to link supply and demand.

Lincoln University is unique in New Zealand having a three-year Bachelor of Commerce (Transport and Logistics) degree that covers all modes of transport. Some subjects in that programme lend themselves to inclusion as electives in other specialisations in commerce and environmental management.

This degree will meet the academic requirements for membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in New Zealand (CMILT).

There are some exciting and challenging jobs to be won by good graduates in supply chain management, intermodal logistics, storage and warehousing communication, environmental planning and policy analysis.

The degree requires passes in 24 subjects with a maximum of 11 subjects at the 100 academic level and a minimum of five subjects at the 300 academic level. Students normally take four subjects per semester and three years to complete the degree unless they take advantage of summer school to accelerate their advancement.

Logistics is concerned with the flow of materials in the supply chain, from source through the total industrial process to the customer, and then on to disposal or re-use/re-cycling. By co-ordinating all resources, logistics ensures that service levels are acceptable to customers. Our programme will provide you with a detailed understanding and knowledge of logistics and its place in all types of industries. The range of professional and general management skills you will develop will be invaluable for careers in logistics and many other areas of graduate employment.

Logistics Programme Outline

You will examine all aspects of logistics, covering the whole spectrum of the ‘supply chain’. You will achieve this through studying human resource management, financial management, systems analysis and information technology. Logistics is sometimes referred to as ‘the time-related positioning of resources’, since it is involved in each stage of a product’s or service’s life.

Professional Experience

Choose between our three-year full-time and four-year sandwich programme, incorporating a year of paid professional experience. Placements are arranged with the help of our placement tutor.

Professional Recognition

The Institute of Logistics and Transport gives full accreditation to our programmes. You will meet all the educational requirements for Corporate Membership and following relevant practical experience in the industry, be eligible to become a full member.
