Some countries import a large amount of food from other parts of the world. To what extent is this a positive or negative trend? It is argued that importing a substantial amount of food from various countries has become popular among some states. I am of the viewpoint that this development is more negative than positive due to the reasons which will be mentioned is essay.
First and foremost, importing consumable goods from other parts of the world is financially disadvantageous. Given that the currency of a country exporting and the one importing might differ, the latter has to exchange their currency first. Although in same cases the country which is importing foods might benefit from this, more often than not countries, especially the ones which are poor, may risk loosing money. Even if this is not the case, there is a piracy risk. In this case not only the country does not the food they supposedly imported and paid for, but they do not get their money back as well.
Furthermore, it would be wrong to overlook the fact that this development can put the citizensā health at risk. In order for food travel long distances safely, various chemicals should be added. This, in turn, means that they are less nutritious and do not provide vitamins and minerals. Even though in same cases such food can result in food poisoning, in the long run people can have various dangerous illnesses such as cancer, which occur as a result of the added preservatives. In addition, various epidemics can burst in countries because of importing infected food from countries which might have been the centers of epidemics.
In conclusion, although some countries depend on food exported by other countries, I believe that this not advantageous for them owing to the reasons which I mentioned above.
