STEAM Academy Field Trip to the FAA
On October 4, the STEAM Academy had the opportunity to visit the Federal Aviation Administration Technical Center Headquarters at the Atlantic City International Airport. Below are some of the areas STEAM students were able to visit and observe demonstrations:
-Concrete Testing
-Airport Fire Safety
-Safety Vehicles
-Fire Testing
-Aviation Equipment Testing
This facility is a state of the art facility that is right in our back yard. Not only were students exposed to the inner workings of the airport, but they were able see how all of the STEAM disciplines are applied in a real life setting. The FAA hires engineers, pilots, military, computer scientists, mathematicians, fire fighters, project managers, designers, and a variety of other personnel to complete all of the necessary tasks the FAA accomplishes on a daily basis. Seeing helicopters and F16s take off and land during lunch was an added treat! This was a great experience that our STEAM students were able to have and if we plan to go back we can see something different because there is so much to see at the facility.
