The Black Panther Party’s Ten Point Program
The Black Panther Party’s Ten Point Program is a valuable tool for teaching liberation education. It not only gives students a deeper understanding of civil rights/human rights movements in US history, but provides an opportunity for nourishing and utilizing students’ capacity to connect this history to their individual experience with oppressive structures. It can also instill positive self-value, help cultivate empathy and a commitment to social justice.

Materials: copies of “Black Panther Party’s Ten Point Program” worksheet, for each student. Students may want pencils to take notes
Activities: Pass out copies of “Black Panther Party’s Ten Point Program” to each student. Have students reach each point aloud, and then ask them what they think it means in their own words. Then, read the line below each point and ask students how this is still relevant today. Be sure to alternate readers/speakers.
