The Tale of Blood Evidence in the OJ Simpson Case
The case of O.J Simpson depicted there was DNA which was determined in the blood where the crime was occurred. The prosecutor pointed that they had the physical evidence that Mr
Simpson was the murderer. The jurors stated that Mr Simpson was not guilty but they also condemned the evidence of the case of the prosecution. It was found that the police themselves carried out the case inappropriately by mishandling the blood evidence. The blood evidence instead of the paper containers was taken in the plastic which degraded DNA
(Kolata, 1995). Some blood evidence was collected weeks after the occurrence of the crime and it was delivered after a long time into the laboratory. The laboratories were engaged in sloppy practices. The evidence was mishandled by the police department of Los Angeles.
DNA is considered to be a powerful and important forensic tool which need appropriate laboratory conditions and extreme care. The DNA was taken from the blood Mr Simpson depicted that the DNA sample was his but the questions are raised for the jurors and police laboratories. The DNA evidence proofed that Mr Simpson was the killer but the lawyer of Mr
Simpson stated that the blood sample was collected carelessly. The sloppy handling and laboratory errors with the forensic samples make the defendant to stop the crime in the laboratories (Cooper, 2008). It was argued that the while processing the blood from the crime scene may lead to the contamination of the forensic samples. But it was defendant the police lab processed and controlled half of the samples and it was not contaminated. The case shows that the technology needs to be carried out appropriately. The alternative theories used by the defendant for the evidence made him successful.
