Traditionally, the Tulane Victory Bell is rung after Tulane victories. The Victory Bell was cast in 1825 for the Leche family. It was donated to Tulane by Richard W. Leche, who was governor of Louisiana in 1936-39. On April 1, 2011, the bell was dedicated to the memory of the late Tulane alumnus Bobby Boudreau ('51, '53). Housed at McAlister Auditorium plaza, the base of the bell is inscribed to denote:
This Victory Bell celebrates the spirit of Bobby Boudreau, whose 'ROLL WAVE' will forever sound across campus." In a new tradition started in 2011, first-year students rub the bell for luck after the Convocation Ceremony.

On game day, Tulsa football fans are encouraged to line 8th Street/Glenn Dobbs Drive approximately two hours and 15 minutes prior to kick off to cheer on the Golden Hurricane football team as they make their way from Sharp Chapel to H.A. Chapman Stadium. The TEAM WALK begins on the edge of Hurricane Alley, which opens three hours prior to kickoff. Led by the Sound of the Hurricane percussion unit, Captain ‘Cane and the TU Spirit Squads, this Tulsa football tradition began in 2007.
"Hail to Tulsa U" is sung by alumni and current students prior to major sporting events and at the end of all commencement ceremonies. Alumni and students remain standing as a sign of respect. The melody is played by the Sharp Chapel carillon daily at 5 pm

The BLAZE is operated by the FRONTIERSMEN and is an oil field warning siren that was chosen to represent the university's ties to the petroleum industry. In the late 80's, Coach Jack Pardee, Andre Ware and David Daucus felt that the university lacked a symbol for the football team. An oil field warning siren was and by 1991, through a number of refinements by the efforts of the "H" Association, the Taxi Squad, Pleas Doyle and the Hruska Family, the purchase of the siren was complete. In the fall of 1991 a group of students manned a crank siren while waiting for the new siren to arrive. The siren did not arrive until late that football season, the day before Homecoming. That summer David Carl Blazek passed away. David was a staunch supporter of the University and his death was a blow to the original men who ran the siren. The Sigma Chi Fraternity had been in charge of the siren up to this point and gave it the name "The BLAZE" in honor of their fallen brother. To this day, every time that the BLAZE is sounded off, the University hears the voice of David Carl Blazek.

Traditions
When Connecticut Agricultural College became Connecticut State College in 1933, the institution’s athletic teams could no longer be called "Aggies." The following year, the student newspaper, The Connecticut Campus, conducted a student survey to select a mascot. The top choice was the husky dog. A student contest resulted in naming the dog "Jonathan" for Jonathan Trumbull, Connecticut's Revolutionary War-era governor. The first Jonathan was a black and white husky. However, all subsequent dogs have been all-white. UConn’s current mascot is Jonathan XIII. The husky dog was immortalized on the Storrs campus in 1995 with a statue by artist Larry Waisele. The statue is a popular photo spot. Students often rub the nose of the statue for good luck. A costumed mascot inspires school spirit at UConn athletic events and other campus activities.
The words to UConn’s school song, Alma Mater, also known as Old Connecticut, were written by University alumna Alice Sawin Davis, Class of 1925. Another popular University hymn is UConn Husky, the University's fight song. The tune, written by Herbert France, a former head of the music department
