Your Hometown Electric Utility –

Prepared for Any Storm
By the City of Dover Electric Department
The 2016 Atlantic hurricane season is underway. Forecasters are predicting this year to be more active than 2015 and, we at the City of Dover Electric Department encourage you to be prepared and not let your guard down. With Hurricane Alex that formed in the eastern Atlantic in January, well before the hurricane season even started, it is important to prepare today.
Customers sometimes ask us whether a local utility has the resources to provide reliable service and timely restoration in the event of a natural disaster. The answer is, yes. Community-owned utilities have an excellent track-record, and the City of Dover’s service reliability is supported by our local presence and a statewide alliance with Delaware’s nine municipal electric utilities.
At the City of Dover Electric Department, we live and work in this community. We know the area and its residents. If you ever have a problem with your electric service, you can call our Emergency Operations Center, 24/7 at 302.736.7086. When we dispatch our line crews to take care of a problem, they get there quickly and stay until the job is done.
Our utility has a mutual aid agreement with other municipal utilities statewide. If a storm hits us, they will come help us; and if they’re hit, we will go help them. We even have partnerships with municipal utilities nationwide. So, we’ll have the resources we need, even in a worst-case scenario.
For the past few storm seasons, we have had little or no direct impact from a hurricane or tropical storm. While we hope for another trouble-free hurricane season, we want you to know we have the local community power and statewide strength to provide reliable service in any season.
