7th NGA National Visual Art Competition: Invitation to Participate
The National Gallery of Art (NGA), a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, ever conscious of its statutory responsibility of enhancing and promoting visual arts in Nigeria is organizing the 7th edition of the NGA National Visual Arts Competition in four categories: Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Tertiary Institutions and Professional Artists.
The competition is geared towards stimulating and encouraging serious commitment to artistic expression while rewarding excellence in the practice and profession of visual arts.

The theme for the 7th edition is Insecurity as the bane to national development”. This is targeted at the various segments of the society to underscore the harm insecurity has inflicted on the country and the efforts by government to mitigate it and return the country to normalcy and development once again. The sub-themes include:



  1. No to Kidnapping

  2. Salute to our Military

  3. Caging Bandits and Terrorists

  4. Good Governance as Panacea for Insecurity.

Participants are free to choose any of the sub-themes above to produce their art works either in Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics/Pottery, Textile, Drawing and Prints, Photography, Architectural Designs, Graphics, Jewelry and Communication Design among others.

The weight/size of art works should not be more than 10kg for sculpture and ceramics while painting, drawing and textiles should not be more than 3ft x 4ft.
Art works should be submitted to NGA zonal offices on or before the 21st March 2022 first for zonal selection while the final selection of the art works will be in Abuja for the grand finale. Further communication will be made in this regard.
NGA Zonal Headquarters are as follows:


  1. South-west: National Gallery of Art, Iganmu, Lagos

  2. South-east: National Gallery of Art, World Bank Building, Umuahia

  3. North-central: National Gallery of Art, FCT office, Abuja

  4. North-east: National Gallery of Art, Federal Secretariat, Bauchi

  5. South-south: National Gallery of Art, Information Layout, Uyo

  6. Northwest: National Gallery of Art, Shehu Kangiwa Secretariat, Sokoto.

Note that all art works that would be selected for the grand finale will not be returned as they automatically become the Gallery’s property.
