Jack died May 2, 1965 in El Cerrito California (SSN 704-01-3828). Jack married Alma Sophia Fosvik November 8, 1942 in St. Cloud MN. Alma was born September 26, 1914 and died November 9, 1994 (SSN 545-34-1570). They are both buried in the Golden State National Cemetery, San Bruno CA. Children: Linda and James. He was for two terms president of the Ventura Senior Citizens' Association. He is survived by a son, Robert J. Doc got sick, sleeping sickness, and passed away. Their son, Tom, went into the Navy and was lost in the Battle of the Coral Sea aboard the USS Pillsbury. Jane never got over his death, and eventually died in a hospital of a broken heart - probably mental illness from all of the symptoms from her records and letters. She was a Librarian in Virginia, Minnesota for a time in the forties. I remember her as a beautiful woman, who wore clothing well, even though she never had much money at all. (She was destitute during WW 11. She was a strict Christian Scientist. Jane Graham was born on October 7, 1885 in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended Iowa City schools including two years at Iowa City College. Jane Graham was married to Dr. W. Farnsworth in 1911. Dr. and Mrs. Farnsworth lived in Sanborn, Iowa until 1929, when they moved to Hinckley. Dr. Farnsworth passed away in 1933. One son was born to this union, Thomas W., who lost his life in the Battle of the Coral Sea in World War 11. Jane Farnsworth helped to organize the Hinckley Public Library and was the first librarian for several years. She also worked as librarian at Virginia, Minnesota. She was at one time an active member of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by 1 brother, Sennett J. Graham of Ventura, CA, one niece and four nephews, Harriet Ann Howe, CA, John Young, Denver, CO, Phillip Hermann, Moose Lake; Jack Hermann, Albany, CA; George Hermann, El Cerrito, CA. Funeral services were held at the Tattings Funeral Chapel, Hinckley, MN on Monday, January 7, 1963, at 2 p.m. The officiating clergyman was Rev. Frank Koksma. Don Tatting sang “Sometime” and “Children of the Heavenly Father”, accompanied by Judy Sewall. The casket bearers were John Miller, George Hermann, Phillip Hermann, Herbert Rabe and Allen Hermann and Jay Hermann. Internment was at the Brook Park Cemetery. Farnsworth at his home southwest of Hinckley, on Saturday, September 24th, came as a severe shock to his many friends here, although he had been a patient sufferer for the past four years. Frank Wilkinson Farnsworth was born at Dysart, Iowa, Nov. 1, 1883. When four years old, his parents moved to Sanborn, Iowa, where they took up a homestead. He attended the country school, the Sanborn High School where he graduated in 1903. He attended Highland Park school of music, studied medicine and dentistry at the State University of Iowa, graduating in 1908, and locating in his boyhood town he practiced for twenty years, retiring May 1, 1928, on account of his health. March 10, 1909, he was united in marriage to Jane Graham at Iowa City, Iowa. To this union one son, Thomas Wilkinson Farnsworth, was born. In October, 1928, the family came to Hinckley, and made a beautiful little home southwest of town, where he passed away to that undiscovered country from whose bourne no man returns. Early in life, he became a member of the Presbyterian Church at Sanborn, Iowa, where for many years he enjoyed teaching a class of boys in the Sunday School. He was a member of the Blue Lodge No. 49, A. F. & A. M., Rose Croix Chapter, Abu-Bekr Shrine, Coral Chapter O. E. S. and Psi Omega fraternity. He passed away Saturday morning, Sep. 24, at 10:00 a.m., at the age of 48 years, 11 months and 6 days. His father and sister from Iowa were with the family when he passed on. Left to mourn his loss are his wife and son, his father and one sister, and a number of other relatives, as well as a great host of friends in Iowa and here. His mother died about three years ago and one sister preceded him to the Great Beyond two years ago. A short funeral service was held at the home at two o’clock on Tuesday, September 27th, and he was laid to rest in the cemetery at Brook Park with the Hinckley Masonic Lodge conferring Masonic honors and Rev. T. J. E. Wilson, officiating. Casket bearers were Wm. Wicker, Walter Hoffman, A. E. Eddy, H. G. Swennes, Earl Bassett and Joe Freml. Singing at the services was rendered by Earl Bassett, L. W. Brown, Campbell Christianson and R. L. Morrish. Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. T. W. Farnsworth of Sanborn, Iowa, Mrs. H. A. Neitzke from Ocheyeden, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Newark from the Twin Cities; Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Markham and Mr. and Mrs. Royal Markham from Rush City, Marion Lonus and Mr. and Mrs. Larson of Pine City. In his four years of residence here, Dr. Farnsworth made many friends. He was an uncomplaining sufferer and a friendly, kindly man whom we all will mourn, and the sincerest sympathy is extended to his greatly bereaved family. Jennie was Hinckley Minnesota librarian and compiled the original Westcott genealogy. She also was librarian in Virginia MN. She was living in Denver CO in October of 1952. Jennie lived in Hinckley for much of her later life until she was admitted to the Moose Lake State Hospital in Moose Lake MN in about 1960 due to dementia where she died January 3, 1963. Children: Thomas Wilkinson Farnsworth (1920 – 1942) died at sea when his ship the USS Pillsbury sunk in battle with the Japanese in 1942 while in the Navy during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart. Memorial in Hinckley Lutheran Memorial Cemetery lists his name. A monument at Fort William McKinley in Manila Philippines lists him as missing at sea. Popular Iowa City Girl Weds Dr. F. N. Farnsworth A wedding that came as a surprise to all except the most intimate friends was solemnized Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Graham on South Governor Street when their daughter Jennie I. was united in marriage with Dr. F. W. Farnsworth of Sanborn, Iowa. Only the families of the parties were present, the ceremony being performed by Rev. D. W. Wylie. A three course wedding supper was served after the ceremony and at 11:30 Mr. and Mrs. Farnsworth left for Cedar Rapids, from there proceeding to Dysart, where they will visit a few days before going to their home in Sanborn.

Mrs. Farnsworth was Hinckley Librarian for over five years, leaving for California a few months ago to be near her son. The news is a shock to their many friends here, who hope that it means that he is only missing, and may show up again in the future. Ref: "The Long Family" - Edwin Long moved to Alabama in 1887 where he engaged in the machinery and foundry business and later in the bicycle business. In 1896, he moved back to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and end in the repair and sales of bicycles, later going into the automobile business in it's very earliest days. Edwin invented many parts and features of the automobile and made improvements. He built the first more than one cylinder auto in Iowa. It had two cylinders and he refused to trade it for 80 acres of good Iowa farmland. He made the first non-inflammable spark plug (formerly they used paper-mache which burned up when too hot) by compressing mica leaves. Carburetors were unknown, gasoline entering the cylinder raw but Edwin made the first known vapor carburetor out of tin cans stuffed with waste upon which the gasoline dripped and by through being sucked into the motor the vapor was obtained, however this had it's drawbacks as a back fire caused the cotton to ignite, necessitating quick action to prevent the car from burning. Edwin has a letter from Henry Ford, received in those early days, suggesting that they combine their inventive efforts and that Edwin join with him in Detroit. This he did not do. Edwin moved to Los Angeles in 1922 and remarried in 1925 or 26 and lived in Inglewood, CA.
