The RDI group – yes, that’s the “Ramseys Did It” theorists – assert that this is a cop-out and that it shouldn’t be difficult for the Ramseys to recall events that occurred only one or two days in the past.
We take the middle-approach here in that we can give the Ramseys a pass on several items, but we should see some degree of consistency between what they state and what the evidence tells us. So, I’ve listed some of the most troubling inconsistencies in the early statements made by the Ramseys:
1.) Both JR and PR stated that they all went to bed shortly after arriving home the evening of 25 December, 1996. But this is clearly false. Video technicians from the Boulder City Police Department videotaped the house after the murder to document the scene. Several witnesses saw the scene in the family dining room the morning of 26 December, 1996. There, on the table, was an odd choice of place settings for what looked like two people. Burke Ramsey (BR) was known for being very fond of tea and JBR was known for her love of pineapple. In the settings we can see a bowl of pineapple inappropriately placed in a very large bowl with a spoon intended by design for formal occasions (PR stated she didn’t even recognize it). I’m not a big tea fan but a glass of tea is there as well. But I thought hot tea was not appropriately served in a glass? As we saw in the coroner’s note, JBR had a cold or flu and on the table is a box of napkins, possibly there for JBR. Additionally, Lou Smit’s interview of JR revealed that 2 knives could be seen on the table, probably indicating two serving knives. See the screen capture below (credit to WHY_NUT and courttv):
