Someone in the Yocom family had a picture of the woman who was believed to be the `witch.' Aunt Polly furnished a silver dime which was melted to make a little bullet with which the witch's picture was shot. The bewitched woman was said to have recovered immediately.”

“The Yocom girl who married Lewis Fortner--they had a lot of children. She became a widow and being poor, spent winters `visiting' relatives. Hazel Rupert Evans said `she came to Grandpa Downing's in the dead of winter and spent 2 or 3 weeks. She always got her children around the fireplace (the only heat except the kitchen stove) and they crowded out the Downing chidren who were always happy to see them go! She always told the Downing children to give `old Jim', her horse, exactly 19 ears of corn--the horse never cared to eat this much so the children put in enough corn cobs to make a total of 19 with the ones the horse wanted. The horse would slobber over them and everthing looked normal to her when she checked, which she always did.'”
