For over fifty years he was an active member of the Christina Church. He belonged to the Western Indiana Conference. There is a sketch of “Elder Francis B. Yocom” in Counties of Clay and Owen, Indiana, Charles Blanchard, editor. Chicago: Battey and Company, pp531-532.

Hazel Rupert Evans: “My great-grandmother Downing was a Yocom. She had a brother, Francis, that was a powerful good man. John S. and Lizy always held Uncle Frank up to their younguns as an example. He was a minister of the gospel. That in itself was elevatin' enough, but out'n beyond that Uncle Frank was a member of the State Legislature. Wouldn't that give any family class? With a Capital C! He was really something to talk about. Many an evening they set about the fireplace and talked about how wonderful it was to have somebody in the family like Uncle Frank. They all had a big dose of the Downing pride, but Uncle Frank really gave them good reason to hold their heads up high.”
