The terms emotional diminution/reduction of emotional responsiveness, a sense of emotional blunting or numbing, or detachment or indifference have all been used in the various studies. For the behavioral perspective, apathy or diminished motivation not attributable to cognitive impairment or depressive symptoms have been used5. It may be more accurate to regard the emotional and behavioral effects as comprising a “network of processes”, in the manner in which the computer scientist Marvin Minsky approaches the topic of emotions his book “The Emotion Machine”6 that psychological terms cannot precisely define.
