Memorable Portrait of Earhart
On March 17, 1937, St. Patrick’s Day, Earhart and her crew flew the first leg of their round the world flight from Oakland, California to Honolulu, Hawaii. I addition to Earhart and Noonan, Harry Manning and Paul Mantz, who was acting as Earhart’s technical advisor were onboard. When they reached Honolulu, it was discovered there were problems with the lubrication of the propellers. Due to the lack of time and facilities, Mantz wasn’t able to have them completely serviced. After all the work possible was done on the propellers, the flight was scheduled for Luke Field, in Pearl Harbor.
