Effectiveness—Adequacy


Total amount of child support transferred between parents and average value of child support liability

Amount transferreda $1.94 billion, including $1.27 billion in child support payments transferred directly, and $672 million in child support liabilities collected by CSA.

Effectiveness—Independence


Child support collection rate (CSA collect and private collect)

The collection rate is calculated by measuring dollars collected as a percentage of liabilities raised since the Child Support Scheme began in 1998.

Total collection (including private transfers)—94.1 per cent

CSA collection (where CSA collects the liability)—88.7 per centb

Percentage of private collect cases to total cases (CSA collect and private collect cases)

In 2002–03, 50.6 per cent of all registered parents opted for private collection, compared with 49.4 per cent in 2001-02 and 47.7 per cent in 2000-01. This was the first year that over half of all parents registered with CSA chose to transfer their child support payments privately.
