John Gilbert Vice President Ken Devine Director Steven Johnson Director AALA 2016 ADMINISTRATORS OF THE YEAR The five honorees listed below were selected by a committee of their peers. The recipients have received a $500 stipend they will in turn donate to their favorite student program or educational activity. The stipend is made possible through the generosity of the California Credit Union. Adult Department Dr. Clifton de Cordoba, Principal, Evans Service Area Having had a distinguished career as an ESL instructor, he continuously promotes the importance of cultural proficiency. Learning a common language is the key to inclusion and acceptance to best serve the adult schools of the District. Dr. de Cordoba is the President of the Adult School Principals Organization, and an active AALA member on many fronts. Elementary Department Bradley J. Rumble, Principal, Esperanza Elementary School Mr. Rumble is an excellent example of bringing the world and key partners to the school’s doorstep: Dream a World Foundation, UCLA Community Partners, Colburn School of Music, LAPD Equestrian Unit, Rancho Santa Ana, the Getty Museum, and the Audubon Society to name a few. He also passionately educates administrators on the importance of making smart financial now choices to enjoy a worry-free retirement later. Secondary Department John Lawler, Principal, Chavez Learning Academy – ArTES (Arts/Theatre/Entertainment Magnet) Mr. Lawler is one of the founders of Cesar Chavez – ArTES. He was the driving force behind the design team, opened the school, and remains steadfast and committed to the vision of an outstanding arts education for every student. Mr. Lawler has a deep commitment to his students and their families, and works tirelessly to ensure all students thrive, feel nurtured, and safe at ArTES. Supervisory Department Ileana M. Dávalos, Director, Professional Learning and Leadership Development Branch Ms. Dávalos was instrumental in establishing the Los Angeles Administrative Services Credential Program, a new, no cost, vehicle for District administrators to clear their administrative credentials. Currently, 180 administrators are enrolled. Ms. Dávalos is known for promoting a culture of professionalism, inclusivity, placing a high value on positive and professional networking, and is closely collaborating with AALA to provide valuable and job-embedded professional development opportunities to our members. The PD opportunities have proven popular and have filled to capacity within 24-hours of being announced!
