Spring 2021

Online Classroom Routines
1. At the beginning of class sign into our Zoom Room. Please mute yourself on entry. Your camera is optional.
2. Start working on the Do Now that is on the board. This should be completed quietly, unless otherwise asked.
3. Post questions to the chat feature in zoom. I will also be providing the opportunity for verbal questions and for you to talk with your peers.
4. Be respectful and be kind. Things are hard enough during this time, so while we’re in our classroom space lets treat each other kindly and with compassion
Tech Platforms
Google Classroom will be in use for this class. It is going to be our primary form of communication with one another this year. Homework and classwork is not considered complete until it is uploaded to Google Classroom.
EdPuzzle is a website where you will answer questions about a video. PearDeck is an online tool where students will work on content during our daily Zoom meeting. Ab Google Form
will be given everyday with the attendance link.
Grade Breakdown and Description
60% Summative assessments which may include Projects, short response tests or essays for each unit
40% Formative assessments which may include Classwork, homework, lab assignments or quizzes.
Student Expectations
Students will try their best in class. Students will participate in classroom discussions and engage in classroom activities. Students will handwork in on time. Late work will be accepted for credit until the end of the marking period. You will be assessed on your engagement during zoom classes for extra credit on your average for up to 10 points on your final average. Some examples are typing in the Zoom chat, completing PearDecks, or other types of live interaction.
Course Objectives
Scientists will be able to
 Develop and use models to represent qualities and processes of the Earth and Universe
 Analyze and interpret data gained from experiments, literature, news, and other sources
 Plan and carryout investigations and research to answer scientific questions
 Develop explanations for scientific phenomena using natural and experimental evidence
 Prepare for success on the NYS Earth Science Regents Exam
