Dinah ArbuckleTrained at School of Domestic Science, Edinburgh; was Housekeeper at Police College, Tulliallan; Mrs Macdonald, Hill Crescent, Corstorphine. Attended BBS in the 1930s. Elizabeth D F-S Arbuckle(1918-92) BBS 1930-36 Beth Arbuckle died in March 1992. After School Beth trained in Agriculture at Edinburgh and Auchincruive, Ayrshire. Most of her career was involved with agriculture in various aspects, latterly as a teacher, librarian and Tutor and Adviser to students in Elmwood Technical College. She had previously taught in Langholm and Queen Anne School, Dunfermline. Jeana ArbuckleMrs Scott started at BBS in 1935. She was a secretary and now (2014) lives in Newport-on-Tay. Gina Arbuckle(1948- BBHS 1959- Mrs Gina Logan (née Arbuckle) was rewarded in 1999 by the Scottish Sports Council for her services to sport. She received the Volunteer Investment Programme Award for supporting local, district and national level sport "in a tireless and unselfish manner for over 30 years". She coaches swimming, organises short tennis tournaments, judges swimming galas, is a member of the East Fife Sports Council - all this plus a full-time job and bringing up a family! In February 2010 Gina was honoured for her outstanding services to the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association. She was presented with the John Y Coutts accolade at the Scottish Swimming Awards dinner on Saturday, February 27 in the Carnoustie Golf Hotel. She was one of over 200 people, representing all aquatic disciplines, who attended the annual event. Gina became involved in swimming when her five children started lessons at Cupar Swimming Pool and went on to become heavily involved in teaching the sport to young people. Gina worked as a PE teacher at Fife Institute in Glenrothes for around 20 years before retiring. In 2006 she led the Scottish aquatics team to a record-breaking 12 medals in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. And in October she is to be the deputy general team manager for Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Locally she was president of Cupar Swimming Club for three years and remains an active member. She also helps parents teach their children how to swim at the pool on a part-time basis. Gina has taught swimming in Cupar for many years and is an internal verifier for Scottish Swimming. She has also managed the east district, Scottish youth and national swimming teams. She said she was delighted to receive the accolade: ‘It was a big surprise to be presented with the award and it makes people realise the work that is done behind the scenes for the sport. I have enjoyed teaching swimming over the years and working with young people.’ Gina was appointed deputy general manager for the Scottish team at the 2010 Commonwealth games.
From Newsletter Issue 36 May 2009: Gina is again to be directly involved with the Scottish team at the next Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010. Gina led the swimming team last time in Melbourne, where they astounded the hosts and everyone else with an unprecedented haul of 12 medals. This time Gina will be responsible for the village accommodation and will be the first point of contact for the athletes for non-sport related matters. Gina has been Chairman of the East Fife Sports Council, President of Duffus Tennis Club, convenor of Fife Region Swimming and is still on the Council for Scottish Swimming. She expects a large part of her work this time to be arranging accreditation for athletes and organising VIP visits. She was due to visit Delhi in April along with the rest of the management team and members of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Committee. Gina Logan was installed as President of the Scottish Swimming Association at its AGM in February 2012. This is a well-deserved honour for someone who has given so much of herself as competitor, trainer and organiser over so many years. Here is how the Fife Herald reported the news: A CUPAR swimming teacher has gone a long way since, as a child, her three elder brothers atempted to cast her adrift in the River Tay! Well known for teaching at Cupar pool and Fife Institute, Gina has already received national recognition for her talents, being appointed depute general team manager for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne (2006), Dehli (2010) and next year in Glasgow. And, just last month (February 2013) she was named President of the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association! Gina's involvement in the administration side of swimming began äs a result of her five children becoming accomplished swimmers at their local dub, Cupar & District, where even today they still hold club records. At the same time Gina continued in her profession äs a teacher of Physical Education at Fife Institute - part of which was teaching all age groups to swim and working with Disability swimming and Gala Convenor for Fife Schools swimming for 10 years. As always in sport administration there is a natural progression from Club to Region to District and Gina soon became Fife Swimming convenor and latterly convenor of Fife Region, and also secretary of East District. She has also been instrumental in the.establishment of the Fife Perform ance squad - a long ambition to see Fife Performance swimmers have the opportunity to train in Fife. Through her position as East District secretary she became a member of Council of Scottish Swimming, later vice-president and so to her position now as president of Scottish Swim ming and member of the Board of Directors of Scottish Swimming. Gina told the Herald there was only one drawback to being installed as president of Scottish Swimming on a Saturday; she had to get someone eise to take her classes at Cupar pool! She teaches there most days and in spite of all her other tasks and duties in swimming she loves teaching all ages to be confident in the water and enjoy the benefits of being able to swim. Gina is the younger sister of Andrew D Arbuckle (qv).
