A very scarce if not unique Group of Medals to long serving member of the Australian Defence Force (Navy/Army). Barker served 2 tours in Vietnam, also served aboard H.M.A.S. 2600 AUST WW2 SCARCE LOST AT SEA RAN PACIFIC GROUP OF FOUR. 1939- 45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal and ASM 1939-45. To. "P A J Prideaux". (First two unnamed as issued). Jack Prideaux served as cook aboard HMAS Matafele. A 335 Ton Stores carrier. Commissiobned into the RAN 1/1/43. She left Townsville from Milne Bay New Guinea 18th June 1944. Failing to arrive an extensive sea and air search found no sign of her. However wreckage recovered over a wide area confirmed her loss. She floundered on or about the 20 June 1944. It is uncertain if she sank due to over or poor loading or as a British Authority summised that she had been sunk by a Japanese Submarine. C/W Research Notes. Original Letter to his wife forwarding his medals, Widows Badge with one star. (No "N.792), Mother's Badge (No "N 17352). And a small newspaper cutting of the time. A great group attributable to a great WW2 Mystery. EF $1850
