Awarded the Military Medal on recommendation as follows: "On the Night of 8th July 1918 at Vaire Wood near Corbie, Sgt Harris was in charge of a Working Party in an exposed position. On the opening of a sudden and heavy barrage, several of his men became casualties. Sgt Harris showed conspicuous bravery and complete disregard of personal safety in getting those wounded under cover, and by his example keeping his men steady - thereby minimising Casualties and enabling the work to be completed.
