ordinances of the church are for believers only. The ordinances serve as a testimony of faith. Those who have not committed their lives to following Christ may learn from seeing believers follow the ordinances. Children especially can learn
from seeing people baptized, so when appropriate, children maybe invited to come to the front of a congregation fora better view of the baptismal service. Consider the scriptural basis for baptism. Christ was baptized (
Matt. 3:13-16). Believers in the early church were baptized (
Acts 2:38-41). Christ commanded his disciples to baptize (
Matt. 28:18-20). Water baptism does not give eternal life. The criminal who died on across beside Jesus at the crucifixion had no opportunity to be baptized yet Christ told the repentant criminal that he would be with the criminal in paradise (
