Fulfilled: Matt. 4:12-17; John 1:45-49. WHY THE MESSIAH WOULD COME In the first advent, Christ would die as a sacrifice for sinful humanity, so that believers may have eternal life. He would initiate the new covenant of grace. In the second advent, he will reign as eternal King over his people. The Old Testament prophets did not understand or differentiate between the two advents. TO BRING ANEW COVENANT OF GRACE Prophecy: Malachi 3:1. The messenger of the New Covenant. 11 Prophecy: Deuteronomy 18:15-18. Moses was a mediator of the Old Covenant of Law, and Jesus is the Mediator of the New Covenant of Grace. Prophecy: Jeremiah 31:31-33. The New Covenant will be written on the hearts of believers. The New Covenant was established during the first advent and will be completed in the second advent.
