WHAT IS A PROGRAM
Depending on who you talk to, you will get very different answers. In operating systems, when a program is running, it is called a process. The program itself can be in many forms, i.e. machine code, assembly code, C code, Cor Fortran, Java, etc Processors execute machine code ONLY. Machine code is written with binary machine words composed of opcodes and operands. The opcodes represent different instructions, for instance an arithmetic addition. Operands are operated on by the instruction. A machine word may look like
