U.S. consumption. We forecast that consumption of petroleum and liquid fuels in the United States will average 20.5 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2022, which would be about the same as in 2019. In 2023, we forecast that consumption will grow to 20.8 million b[arrels]/d[ay]. Our forecast of growth in U.S. consumption of petroleum and liquid fuels is driven by hydrocarbon gas liquids (HGLs) in 2022 and by gasoline in 2023.
But supply is low - Mckinsey 22
Elif Kutsal xx "Snapshot of global oil supply and demand: July 2022", https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/oil-and-gas/our-insights/petroleum-blog/snapshot-of-global-oil-supply-and-demand //yang
The average Brent crude oil spot price grew to $123/bbl in June from $113/bbl in May. Crude oil prices rose further as tight global supply outweighed concerns that fuel demand would be impacted by high inflation rates and fresh COVID-19 restrictions in China
The market’s tight supply has been further exacerbated by the drop in exports from Libya amid the war in Ukraine and concerns about gas supply from Russia this winter.

Since increasing oil supply is proving to be practically impossible, reducing demand is the only viable solution. Ramping up forms of transportation that consume little or no oil is the heart of the solution. Creating a national transportation network based on a system of electric trains throughout the country will take a huge bite out of our unsustainable appetite for oil, while increasing mobility, efficiency, global competitiveness and national security. In conjuction with butanol production, High-Speed Rail will reduce our dependence on foreign oil by more than 50% (2,3) High-Speed Rail is the large-scale, comprehensive solution to the oil supply problem, and is the most significant way to reduce our daily consumption of oil quickly and efficiently while maintaining our prosperity and economic growth. High-Speed Rail will mean: Less Money Spent on Gasoline, More Business & Real Jobs for Real People With so many advantages, when should we commit ourselves to a national High-Speed Rail system? The time is now..
